4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
Again another British film that on the whole was not too bad, set around the club scene and shady underworld, Baseline is a decent effort

1.0 out of 5 stars Basement
Dont waste your time with this movie. Wooden acting and flimsy plot - a completely implausible, unrealistic and poor effort of a gangster movie. No redeeming features, dull basement level drivel.

Top film does exactly what it says on the case but they should have got Danny D in there or Plan B, still class film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not your normal lovable Cockney geezer gangster movie, 10 Aug 2010
By
This review is from: Baseline [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
This is a far grittier and more real portrayal of British gangster culture, and a case in point of what happens when you are unwittingly thrown in at the deep end.
Great performances by Dexter Fletcher, Jamie Foreman, Gordon Alexander, with Gary Stretch minus teeth and tattooed, and Gemma Atkinson in a fleece!
Really lush picture and sound on Blue Ray.
Well worth a watch, makes a welcome change from the many formulaic gangster geezer movies out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent film- ignore the negative reviews., 20 Aug 2010
This review is from: Baseline [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Great film, emotional high octane roller-coaster, urban gritty drama, beautifully shot and with a superb soundtrack. The violence is never uncalled for. More than any other recent British Gangster film you really get a sense of what it might actually be like to be caught up in this world.

Can't fault it!

It takes all sorts, but I'm not sure where the 1 negative reviewer is coming from- the cast is made up of really well respected British actors who bring an unparalleled sense of realism to this film, and some super performances. Yes, the storyline is not the most original but it's still very well executed, and never seems clichéd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action-powered but sensitive, 3 Aug 2010

Baseline was a geat film. It was violent but the storyline was good. It showed how someone can get involved in wrong-doings without wanting to be.

Whatever led Freddie Connor who stars in the film "Baseline" as Bouncer Danny as well as being the Producer of it, to believe that Jamie Foreman could be the "star" or "lead actor" I don't know but he obviously has a lot to learn because in truth Foreman would be really little more than the third in line actor behind the 2 leads on the billing, even allowing for a small budget movie like this?
That said,Foreman WAS quite convincing in his role as Terry the local Mr.Nasty Crime Boss,as were Dexter Fletcher and Gordon Alexander who could never put a foot right.Zoe Tapper added the eye candy though she IS a very good actress to boot I have to say.The film about a nightclub, its bouncer Danny dreaming along with his girlfriend Jessica (Zoe Tapper) of better things in the not too distant future. Those dreams are suddenly scuppered by the need to "rescue" his best friend Paul who is in debt to the sloth Terry.
The reason I have only given 1 star to what is for the most part a quite decent British-made,realistic,down-to-earth gangster film is a)because I wonder where someone like Danny, who has shown throughout the film that he is not as nasty as Terry and his aides, physically whincing when some of their brutality is meted out would get the explosives from? How would he know how to assemble it? There is no hint he was a Soldier? b)the resultant explosion was more akin to a molotov cocktail.SEMTEX OR SIMILAR WOULD HAVE BLOWN THE CAR APART.DISINTEGRATED IT! This single mistake/fact for me spoiled the whole film.
