5.0 out of 5 stars Hillariously Hammy
Some people just don't like ham, and with most films Ham can make a film worse. Here however it was deliberate and just adds to the humour. Basicaly it has a dragon egg that needs to be saved, a willfull princess, a roaming band of pirates, and a knight who wants nothing more than an acre of land and a head of cattle. It's your basic family comedy, however one person dies...

3.0 out of 5 stars Braincandy movie
This is a movie for late some night when nothing else is on. A Princess who is just a bit too modern, a knight who really hams it up, pseudo medieval England, a dragon, plus egg and a host of Character actors hamming it up in beautiful surroundings - for all this is scores well. However hammy acting, thin plot and some really corny moments lose it points, still if you...

The reasoning behind this was for plot endings to all tie up nicely. The character was no longer required story line wise. A bit of an oversight realy. Alittle more tweaking of which characters could tell the story best was required. However I did like this movie and would quite happily sit down to watch it with the kids.

Great cast, and they are just having soooo much FUN making this movie. Gotta love Bill Oddie as the Inn Keeper.
I hadn't realised this would be a rather comedic movie. The dragon CGI at the beginning was several years out of date (sorry to the people who did it) and I suspect it was a budget thing. BUT it still works and it is a dragon so that's OK. Later dragon appearances are better. I loved the last "sniff" of our hero.
This is a fun movie that was made by a bunch of people having fun and who are passionate about film.

Full of slapstick and characters being quite human.

Don't miss the end credits when, among other hilarious moments, the knight is upstaged in a love scene by a defecating horse.

Just like the worst Saturday morning matinees I used to go to as a child in the 1950s. I loved every minute of it, but a good film it wasn't. The hero was wimpy, the heroine too 21st to have actually survived in the middle ages (remember Joan of Arc was burned for wearing trousers!) and the villains not bad enough to be really boo-able.

Only watch it if you want a good laugh.

This movie is just so much fun. It is one of those movies that you should sit back, watch and enjoy (and have a good laugh). If you are looking for an intellectual movie or something to take seriously, this isn't it, but if you want something light and fun without all the blood and gore of most of today's movies, this is perfect! Absolutely love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars George the man, not George the Saint., 25 Jan 2011
This review is from: George And The Dragon [DVD] (DVD)
A nice variation of a good British legend.

Good action, excellent fight scenes and a good level of dry humour.

The main characters were well developed, and as fallible as the rest of us. No superhumans in this film.

Thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable film. Not a classic but well worth the watch.

We first saw bits of this film on television and were sufficiently intrigued to want to watch the whole thing. Having hired a copy, we thoroughly enjoyed it. So we bought our own copy! It has all that is needed in a film, such as an interesting and fairly well-known legend to hang everything else on, some excellent fight scenes, a witty script and (of course) a handsome hero and pretty heroine. There are a lot of recognisable faces and Patrick Swayze as a pretty good baddy. Oh, and a couple of dragons.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't hurt the poor ickle dragon!, 22 Nov 2009
St George and the Dragon as you have never seen the legend before.
George goes to rescue a princess from the terrible beast. Typical fairy tale thus far.

Only George is a reluctant hero whose sole ambition settle down and aquire 'One acre of land and two head of cattle' (which was far less than the minimum needed to support a family even in the Medieval period), and princess does not want to be rescued, and greets George by whacking him over the head, she won't let him kill the dragon, as it is the last of it's kind.
Add an assortment of enemy soldiers to the equation, including grunting picts, and George's moorish friend (from the crusade, naturally), and you have the perfect ridiculous family fantasy.

There is more, with my favourite scene in which Bill Oddie is dangled from the ceiling. If you ever wandered what he did on the interval between his wildlife shows, here is the answer.

Add a small boy swinging a sword that is twice his size (probably made of plastic)and the splurge of red paint which is realeased when someone hits the skateboarding monk with a sword, and Patrick Swayze strutting about with a fixed grin.

Thus you have the perfect recipe for enjoyable nonsense.
