4.0 out of 5 stars Hmm... Give it a second chance
Having this highly recommended to me by a friend I was very eager to watch this, perhaps the hype was what made my first viewing of the film a relatively laugh free experience. But there was something about this film, a charm, that made me compelled to give it a second chance. And I must say I'm rather glad I did.

This little gem of an indie teen comedy is, in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Michael Cera's rough side.
Usually, Michael Cera plays that socially and sexually awkward teen that we've all seen in Superbad, Scott Pilgrim and Nick and Norah's infinite playlist. However, In youth in revolt we still see Cera's awkward side and then he later becomes rebellious. We see things that we wouldn't usually expect of Michael Cera and that's a good thing. I recommend this film because we...

5.0 out of 5 stars Comic Genius!, 19 April 2010

I went to see this at the cinema with a mate on a whim not having seen any trailers for it. I can not understand why it was advertised so little! I enjoyed it so much I went to see it at the cinema twice more (perhaps a little sad...). It didn't get any less funnier! Michael Cera is hilarious as the main character, his dry wit and performance are simply genius. Its a very original storyline despite the cliched teenage boy trying to win beautiful girl scenario. The film is especially good as its more honest- not all hollywood perfect, nuclear family storylines. Steve Buscemi plays the father and despite it being a small role performed it very well. Watch this film!

A very clever and funny film, about a young man trying to live a normal life, despite being raised by his sex-mad mother who only wants him home for the child benefit. She is shacked up with an animal trucker boyfriend. All hopes of happiness seem to be in vain until he meets the girl of his dreams. Lots of good plots & clever dialogue. A must see film for all over 15's.

This review is from: Youth in Revolt [DVD] (DVD)
i was very disappointed with this film. im a fan of comedies so was keen to see this, but straight away i was actually waiting for it to get good.which of course,it never did.by the end i was rather upset i had wasted that much time of my life on this pointless film.the trailers have it portrayed differently to what it is was remotely like and i would have no idea how someone could review it as "great"!
wouldnt watch it again even if i were dying of boredom!

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst film I have ever seen!, 30 Oct 2010

Comedy? Comedy? Comedy? Comedy my arse this is one of the least funnyist films I have ever seen in my life! The only funny thing in it was the fact it was meant to be funny. I rented this DVD as it actualy looked funny BIG MISTAKE!!!! This film is nothing but a soppy romantic. This has to be one of the worst films I have ever seen. I never did so much as a chuckle in any part of the film. I picked this film seen as it had in it Micael Cera from super bad (hilarious film) thinking it would be alike but it is a complete opisate. Its just about a guy who tries to get a girl who he fancies in trouble and he has an imaginary friend its very weird. I strongly recomend you do not buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars One of the worst films of 2010, 26 Jun 2010

Don't get me wrong, I love Michael cera but this movie was utter rubbish from start to finish. I hated it. It wasn't funny at all. I love comedies and I'm up for a good laugh but this film just didn't make me laugh. The comedy in it was very rushed and randomn. The thing is I like randomn comedy when it's done well, here it was a complete mess. The concept of this movie put me off before seeing it.
I cringed at the trailer, I cringed at this movie all the way through. As I put it, the michael cera trailer test seems to be working. The trailer for Paperheart [Staleheart I call it] was awful and the movie was awful too. The trailer for his upcoming film [Scott Pilgrim V.S. the world] was awful and by how things have been going with the michael cera trailer test it's going to be awful. He just seems to be typecast by Hollywood. These films that he has been making recently are a prime example of Hollywood crap. By that I mean, Hollywood exploiting a good actor to make bad films one after another. This movie was just plain awful to quite frank.
I didn't laugh, I did laugh at how stupid it was though. Michael cera's acting was wooden and it just shows you how low you can go with the greats that were Superbad and Juno. I didn't like with this movie how it was really Hollywood cliched with him falling for the girls, her loving him back. It just seemed really unrealistic and quite bizzare to be honest. The actors in this are A-listers mostly and most of them give terrible performances apart from Ray Liotta, who was the only good performance in the entire film!

The plot was along the lines of Michael cera wants to fall in love with a girl, move away with her but her parents move away as her parents don't like her hanging out with him, Michael cera then has a split-personality and gets confused which one he is. He then becomes a rebel and makes a fool of himself. That's all I got.

I enjoyed the hangover a lot more, it was really funny and on the same night when i watched this film, i thought oh my god. I really hated this movie, it sucked on every level pretty much. Sure, it looked nice [cinematography wise] but it really wasn't a good movie. Before I saw this movie, I didn't think I'd like it but having seen the movie it's still very disappointing, even for Michael Cera who I have loved in the past as an actor. I thought this would happen so I'm not surprised to be honest. People in Hollywood want too much of Michael and should back off him for a few years as it's clear they won't give him a good movie to do for a long time.

Overall: 1/10
I don't recommend this movie at all. It was not even remotely funny and just sucked donkey balls. Hands down the worst comedy film I have seen this year and I never thought I would say that after seeing the awful Deathproof but hey, what do you know! Michael, seriously don't put yourself down to this level anymore. I'm starting to lose faith with you as an actor. The better you realise how great you were before and how bad you are now, the better. I'm very disappointed in you and this film.
