A lot more of the same ... kind of

I was pleasantly surprised by The Zombie Island of Dr Ned. Loving the original game, I'd digressed to this expansion just before the penultimate mission. It was a tough slog at first, but after popping a few heads, I found myself enjoying it a lot.
Zombie Island is set on a perpetually dingy island (not bright colour schemes here) where Dr Ned has inadvertantly turned most of the populace into zombies ... and the rest into were-skags. Traipsing around the island to find the truth, you'll find defiler zombies (cover you in vomit which slows you down and obscures your vision), crimson lance zombies, zombies with loot boxes on their backs, zombies with explosive barrels on their back, igor-style zombies, carrion-eating crows, other flying things, massive were-skags and of course ... Dr Ned himself.
The loot is great, the zombies entertaining (although it's a tough 'fight the horde' battle sometimes) and the missions very playable. Although the landscape is drab and dim, it's atmospheric - from the island itself to graveyards, old hospitals and a lumber mill.
Moxxi's Underdome is a bit more disappointing - basically just three huge arenas. You've got to fight your way through five 'waves' each made up of five 'rounds' of scaled opponents. So whilst you might think you're badass, they're just as bad as you. It'll test you to the limit - not least of all because the rounds are switched around to test whatever class you are - and in later rounds, there will be modifiers on the round, such as low gravity or enemies taking less damage. Unfortunately, although it's quite frenetic, I couldn't find a way to exit and come back into the same round again - so I had to start each arena again each time - so I'm not entirely sure if you have to do each arena in one sitting!
Anyway, you do get more skill points and a bank to save your loot in, so the rewards are good. But I enjoyed Zombie Island lot more than Moxxi.
