BEWARE !!! NEW VERSION !!!
on 5 February 2015
The product is actually very different from the old version which gathered all those glowing 5 star reviews from which this piece of junk is still benefiting: you can no longer connect it to a computer to send personalised emails and add games, and it will no longer pronounce your child's name. You can enter your child's name in 'parent mode' (the only thing you can do in parent mode) and it will then spell (but not pronounce) your child's name when the first letter of the name is pressed. This is a very different product from the one that gathered all those 5 star reviews. the 'email' mode doesn't make use of teh child's name: it's just the dog saying things like 'Hello! Would you like to come over to play?' Very disappointing.
The only clue to this effect is a note on the FAQ page of the Leapfrog Website effectively saying:
Q: 'Why doesn't my leaptop have a USB port?'
A: 'Because you're the lucky owner of the new version that doesn't do the cool stuff the old model you thought you were buying used to do. But you can now enter your child's name in parent mode so that when your child presses the first letter of his or her name they will see their name on the sceen. So much better than personalised greetings and emails, right?'
