This 3CD set contains the bulk of 6 classic studio albums as follows: Miles Davis "Kind Of Blue" (1959, all tracks); John Coltrane "Blue Train" (1957, all but one track); Dave Brubeck "Time Out" (1959, all tracks); Bill Evans "Everybody Digs Bill Evans" (1958, all but two tracks); Charles Mingus "Mingus Ah Hum" (1959, all tracks); Ornette Coleman "The Shape Of Jazz To Come" (1959, all but one track).
That's an extraordinary amount of classic jazz for the price, but it's not all from 1959 as the title implies, and the only track listing info supplied is the track title and artist - no composers, personnel, dates, or titles of the original albums the tracks are taken from.
Never mind, with the above listing information to hand, you know this is a set well worth the budget price - whether as an introduction to the innovators of late 1950s jazz, or to provide CD versions of stuff languishing on vinyl.

Good collection for the unitiated and curious (like myself!). 3 x Cds, each one a good hour long and each evenly split between 2 artists; Dave Brubeck/Bill Evans, Miles Davis/John Coltrane & Charles Mingus/Ornette Coleman.
Sound quality is perfectly acceptable for these recordings and the only gripe I have is the total absence of liner notes of any kind which is a real stinker and costs the set a star!
