5.0 out of 5 stars They're Back!, 21 Nov 2009
This review is from: Popkiller (MP3 Download)
Well with a new singer, Tobey Jepson of Little Angels fame and out touring again it seems Gun are serious about trying to recapture some lost recognition over the years. This EP makes a nice start; the Jepson influence is noticeable although not overwhelming which is good because Gun have a great sound. There are a few instant catchy tracks, `Let your hair down' and `Seraphina' which could be commercial hits if they get airplay whilst the rest of the tracks are high energy rhythm guitar numbers. This morphing experiment has worked, Jepson fans will be happy as it seems to compliment his solo work and Guns fans will recognise that Gun range (excuse the pun) of tunes they are famous for and builds on the previous material. I would recommend this as a `value buy' of good rock tunes and won't be surprised to hear it on the radio soon. Welcome back guys, we missed you!

GUN are back! Off course I was worried at first to hear original vocalist Mark Rankin is not in the band, but was relieved to hear they had teamed-up with the bloke who used to batter out Top 40 hits with GUN's contemporaries, Little Angels (Joby Tepson or something of that ilk). The lead track hear is 'Let Your Hair Down' - a classic GUN belter, taking aim at the charts with its slick melody. This may be named 'Popkiller' but as Dante Gizzi showed with his other band, glamsters El Presidente, he knows how to bang out a tune. Welcome back GUN.

This is a great collection of songs. Probably less "Rock" than their 90s material partly because it lacks Mark Rankins stretched leather vocals, but Toby Jepson adds a nice croon and there is a hint of The Gizzi brothers previous project El Presidenti.
A real grower. Played it non stop for a week.

I am not sure whether this is a mini-album or an EP. Five tracks running to 20 mins. So GUN are resurrected but not as they once were.

Mark Rankin is out and Toby Jepson, ex Lttle Angels a band I am also fond of, is in. Whilst they still have an undertone of the old GUN sound, this blend is much more commercial. In saying that, the songs are catchy and the disc is rather good. It is just not the GUN of old.

If I have a criticism it is the poppy keyboards that run through the tracks. Something I haven't taken to. Not sure if this will win back the old fans and whether it wins new ones, only time will tell. I would prefer if they went back to doing what they did best. Good old fashioned Scottish rock music. Still it is a start.

I had heard the band play songs from this at a live gig. I decided to buy the album as I have always like Gun. The songs are good rock songs.
