5.0 out of 5 stars "You can't fight in here! This is the War Room!"
Dr. Strangelove, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is one of the most biting and hard-hitting commentaries about the U.S.-Soviet arms race, overdependence on technology, the can-do philosophy of the Air Force, and the sheer lunacy of MAD, the apt acronym for the term Mutual Assured Destruction -- which was the Cold War diplo-speak that meant "you nuke...

3.0 out of 5 stars Dr Strangelove is a Sellers Love Fest!
A Peter Sellers' tour-de-force! Just about brilliant. Great b/w transfer. The 'extras' are a bit of a letdown, however.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comedy gold..., 13 Dec 2008

One of the best movies I've seen in a long time, and perhaps one of the few that manages to live up to hype about it (unlike say, Citizen Kane)...
The plot is relatively simple, but it's the way it is carried out and how each character in the plot has something weirdly funny about him that makes it such a good movie. Almost every character in the story has some sort of eccentricity, from the paranoid Jack Ripper, to the crazy skeptical Buck Turgidson and all of Peter Sellers characters. The best bit for me was the plan of action put forward by Dr. Strangelove to save the human race.. Probably the funniest clip if I've ever seen one... A must watch

5.0 out of 5 stars As funny and as relevant as it was in 1963, 9 May 2005
By A Customer
This film seems to get funnier and sharper every time I view it. It is a fine piece with all the actors on great form - particularly Sellers. And the message of the film remains as chilling today as it was in the days of the cold war. Essential viewing for anyone who cares about world politics and the power of the state.

Brought this as a gift. I have seen it myself, after been forced to in History, and didn't find it that good, but maybe because it doesn't interest me, but I know the receiver will (I hope).

5.0 out of 5 stars A crazy classic, 30 May 2011
This review is from: Dr Strangelove [Blu-ray] [2010] [Region Free] (Blu-ray)
Kubrick must have had some fun making this little masterpiece. For one, he surrounded himself with brilliant acting talent such as Peter Sellers, Sterling Hayden and George C. Scott. The research was obviously something that Kubrick must have loved too - there is so much detail in regard to the way that nuclear assaults and processes are followed that it sometimes leaves you wondering if this is more of a detailed documentary than a madcap comedy.

That is what makes this film so special. I am really looking forward to buying this once I purchase a blu-ray player, but I think I will be keeping the collector's edition DVD, as from what I understand some of the extras have been removed.

I first saw this film when I was a teenager, a frighteningly long time ago. I still find it hilarious, in a chilling kind of way, today.
Buy it, it's a classic.

This movie has been voted by critics as one of the top three greatest comic films ever. I am not sure if thats right I have watched it a number of times and really have never found myself laughing an awful lot. However it is with out doubt a very classic and important movie with some excellent moments. The Phone Calls from the US President to the Soviet is really good, and classic one liners "You Cannot Fight in Here this is the War Room" Performancies by Sellers and Scott is outstanding as are the rest of the cast. Should be in everyones film collection.
