5.0 out of 5 stars One of the better Star Wars games
The story line is far better than some of the earlier games in the Star Wars franchise, and its great to be able to go to different worlds. The game play can be hard in some sections so you need to safe often.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cool game, bad port
The game is pretty nice in itself. However, it's obvious the PC was a just a console port and some parts of the game are actually very difficult to play with the PC set-up.
The port is very unoptimized, my GF480 could barely keep up in some situations.
If you have 3d vision this is the last game you want to try. The 3D part is very horrible.

3.0 out of 5 stars Daft Star Wars fun, 2 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Star Wars the Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition Game PC (Video Game)
This is an odd game. On the one hand it attempts to tell a fairly serious story, of how the Rebel Alliance was originally formed between Episodes III and IV, and how Vader's 'Secret Apprentice' - your character - contributed to that formation. There's angst, sacrifice, heroism and all the stuff you'd normally expect from a Star Wars tale.

On the other hand, this game is mainly about smashing armies of droids and stormtroopers into pulp using some hilariously overpowered Force abilities. There's not really much skill involved - just mash buttons, things explode on screen, rinse, repeat. It's best described as an exaggerated version of Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast - the story is more all-encompassing, the explosions are larger, and the force powers are stronger.

It's hardly a great game and it really shows how inferior Lucasart's in-house developers are in comparison to previous contracted developers of Star Wars games like Raven and Bioware, but it's still a pretty fun Star Wars jaunt for those of us who are still waiting for a proper sequel to the Jedi Knight series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Another console-afflicted tragedy., 9 Jun. 2010

First my position, an avid PC gamer who followed the Jedi Knight series until Jedi Academy and was left wanting more, a little disappointed by Knights of the Old Republic. The excitement was immense on hearing of a new installment to the Star Wars collection, and set in such a tumultuous period of the saga. Yet Lucasarts pledged their allegiance to the console and PC fans were left waiting for a PC release that unfortunately just doesn't quite deliver.

The overall assessment: A console game unconvincingly wedged into PC format.

The Good: Stand out good point is the quality, humour and storyline of the cinematics. Graphics are good, characters are realistic and the story keeps you on your toes. The only other real positive is the fact you can still zap, throw and beat up hordes of stormtroopers with a lightsaber, but without the same charm as in the Jedi Knight series. However you can do it with force powers that are rather beefed up compared to previous games.

The Bad: Where is the charm? Where is the great feeling from the original Jedi Knight games? From the console based menu system (using entirely keyboard and not mouse) to the boss fights involving a series of key presses that pop up in order on the screen, all the wonderful elements that have kept me hooked firmly on PC gaming are missing. The camera is like a low cinematic, with keyboard rather than mouse controlling character direction, which would be greatly improved by a more over-the-shoulder angle to catch every blow. The camera in boss fights has that massively frustrating fixed angle where half the time your target is off screen, annoying even on a console. The training room you can access any time is a tacky feature taken from console gaming, this would benefit by being integrated into the storyline. Also, the way you go into the main menu to 'purchase' force powers, upgrades and combos or change costume/lightsaber crystals (which change the colour of the lightsaber and provide buffs) is another console feature that takes away from the reality of the game. Changing lightsaber buffs could have been done real time as a replacement to the lightsaber styles in Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Another excellent feature of that great game is lacking here, which is the gradual improvement of core force powers like jump, push and lightsaber throw. That element of fixed core powers with choices for other force powers upgraded as desired by the player gave a far better and more realistic scope for character development, and could have been so easily retained, even with the new upgrade system based on spheres collected in-game or received after a certain amount of force points are earned (by killing enemies and collecting objects called 'Jedi Holocrons'). In fact there are just too many of the great features we PC fans have come to expect that really gives the realistic game-play and full immersion into a storyline that makes a PC game what it is, missing from The Force Unleashed.

The Ugly: Yes, there is a little of this. The worst feature is, despite the souped-up force powers, the lack of that powerful feeling you got in previous games when you knocked off a group of enemies in particularly stylish Jedi mastery. Again it's a question of realism. Clearly you can't have every enemy dieing the second you blast him with a shot of lightning but this ability feels no more powerful than in Jedi Academy on level three, sometimes even less so as it's spread it quite limited. Also, despite the lack of really impressive combos, the few that do stand out (like Impale) are disappointing. Impale shows your enemy with a lightsaber through his chest while remaining alive afterwards if they still have health. A better solution would be to make this a harder earned skill and be a one shot kill for a range of enemies both weak and more powerful. The lightsaber is also a little disappointing, even in previous games it has been a little "click like your life depends on it". I was hoping this would be fixed. The block feature stops the character moving at all which, when combined with the awful camera means you most often get battered from another angle instead. The lightsaber really needs to be made into more of a fancy swordfighting, in fact, despite the slightly random element to Academy's lightsaber battles I still prefer that. Finally, due to it being a console conversion there is literally no scope to change video settings. I can change brightness, whoop. Thus, performance on levels with a lot of enemies can slow down annoyingly (though it's sometimes hard to tell if it is an intentional slow-mo or not as this seems a little over-used). I don't know if it is the performance aspect or just bad AI but many NPC's have attacks that disable you or knock you down, which have a faster repeating rate that you can get up, very frustrating considering the saving element is done in stages like consoles, and considering due to the camera you character is probably off-screen too.

All-in-all, a good 10 hours hacking, slashing and blowing things up as if you were on a PS3, but without the poise, charm, elegance or realism that makes PC format the best choice for a serious gamer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT a PC Game, 19 July 2010
By
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars the Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition Game PC (Video Game)
This has got to be the best graphics for a Star Wars game i've played, but it is also the worst to play, absolutely horrible! Why? - This is a console game turned into a pc with no attempt at altering the controls for use with a pc. The mouse is all but redundant, it can't be used on the menu screens and has very little control over the character/camera.

- Walking off a platform to your death is irrating in the extreme!
- The boss fights are possibly more of a battle trying to orientate your character than it is killing the boss!

I would not recommend this sadly!

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY!, 8 Aug. 2011
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars the Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition Game PC (Video Game)
I've had the unfortunate pleasure of purchasing both this game and Darksider's for myself while being bored.

Both were cheap but neither were worth anything at all, they are unplayable. Reasons below.

Graphics cannot be altered, only the resolution of the game, so unless you have a top end computer you will
not be able to play this game properly without lag and glitches everywhere.

The keyboard/mouse controls are also terrible! This game is only playable using an Xbox Game Pad, which is a
shame considering ITS FOR THE PC.

I am very annoyed and upset, but this one wasn't as bad as Darksiders which was completely unplayable, but its
a very close second on the "Worst PC Ports Ever" List.

So, DO NOT BUY unless you have a top of the range computer and an Xbox Game Pad.

Shame really, this game looked great!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not fun, bad port, 29 Oct. 2013
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars the Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition Game PC (Video Game)
30GB!? Nothing in the game justifies the size of the installation.
Truly bad port, hideous key combinations that result in little more than mashing the keyboard.
Camera control is really bad. I have no idea what I am fighting half the time.
Fairly boring plot, all the interesting ideas wasted.
Incredibly repetitive. Very little fun factor. A true waste of money.
Verdict: Should have been left on the console.
