1.0 out of 5 stars Starts well but it's downhill from there.
The first two chapters are good.
It's a cliché to have the amnesiac hero chased by faceless agents but it is written very well, there is plenty of action and some nice humour in these chapters.

The first two chapters are good.
It's a cliché to have the amnesiac hero chased by faceless agents but it is written very well, there is plenty of action and some nice humour in these chapters.

Everything goes downhill once the hero meets up with his team and we get a mixture of adolescent awkwardness with a dull sci-fi world, rather than having a story expose the world our hero is given a guided tour only recovering his memories when everything has been slowly explained.
The supporting cast are annoying clichés, the sex kitten, the sulky child and the sensible but patronising and irritating one.

The ending is really boring.
There is nothing original here.

Even free it isn't worth getting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Could have been much better, 6 July 2011

I'm not a massive fan of the stream of consciousness style of writing employed but was mostly disappointed by the casual homophobia dropped in by the lead character whose main drive in life is supposed to be the fight for freedom. A lazy stereotype that could have been left out without altering the story at all.

These books are ok. I quite like books like this ( harry harrison style ) but doesnt quite pull it off.

I think I got to the 3rd book in the series and got a bit bored.

There's also an obvious male stereo type of the heroine, which goes a bit off track really. Seems to be trying to appeal to teenage boys.

So all in all, I dont think you will like all the books in the series.

If you want a much better series along the same lines, try a "midshipmens hope" which is an excellent book and a brilliant series.
