5.0 out of 5 stars A good album with some guitar brilliance, 21 May 2013

This review is from: Gods & Goddesses (Audio CD)
I loved this album it was great and comes with a complementary case and booklet. The cd itself is made of plastic and gives a mirrored image when you look into it. If you put it into your CD player, you can hear all the lovely sounds of a rock icon in full flow.

A nice feature would have been some pics of the girl on the cover but maybe that's an idea for a future deluxe edition.

All in all, a highly recommended and beneficial purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laidback, stoner rock, excellently executed, 10 Jun 2014

This review is from: Gods & Goddesses (Audio CD)
Brant Bjork has developed his own signature style with his instant recognizable voice and always putting groove in front of his stoner rock type music. This is a very immediate album offering a really warm, 70's style with more modern touches.

There are lots of influences on show here: Black Sabbath, early ZZ Top, Hendrix and more obviously Kyuss.

Whilst this is no prog album, the songs all take on a feel good, laid back and easy flowing structure that puts a smile on my face. The playing and production are however excellent making it all sound so easy to execute.

t sounds so comfortable and laidback and seems to just have fun, never taking himself too seriously which adds a lot to the final result. Also, his rather powerful voice and typical Southern accent is crucial to adding that desert rock atmosphere to 'Gods & Goddesses'.

"Radio Mecca" has a great bass line and great guitar licks, creating a relaxed atmosphere. "The Future Punk (We Got It)" is another definite high point. "Somewhere, Some Woman" ends the album with a harder edge, but retains the feel good factor.

This is a great CD

A brilliant flow to this album, keeps you completely in the groove from first to last. Laid back feel to a lot of the tracks yet still rocks which of course is the least we expect from one the coolest men on the planet. If you're new to Brant Bjork may I recommend the album he did with his band Fu Manchu called 'King Of The Road'. Anyway, Gods & Goddesses is a great listen and would be worth the purchase for the song 'Porto' alone.
