4.0 out of 5 stars B grade Heat
I wasn't expecting much going into this film, so my expectations were low which may have helped to be honest, as although it is not going to win any Oscars for acting or camera work, it was still a really enjoyable action heist flick that keeps you in suspense with its action until the end. 3.0 out of 5 stars Expected a whole lot worse
With a cast like this you expect a second rate action film, this film meets this criteria exactly. the plot is pretty standard but the direction is excellent. if you don't expect anything then this will be an enjoyable suprise.

4.0 out of 5 stars B grade Heat, 14 Mar 2011

I wasn't expecting much going into this film, so my expectations were low which may have helped to be honest, as although it is not going to win any Oscars for acting or camera work, it was still a really enjoyable action heist flick that keeps you in suspense with its action until the end. Heists, shootouts, & double crosses, ensure that film ticks along at a good pace, although you never really have any true empathy for any of the characters in the film, this is certainly one of those films that ranks in the wham, bam, thank you maam, categories in that you will enjoy it for its 1 hour 40 minute run time while it gets your adrenaline pumping, but will soon be forgotten in a week. So take it as it is, and you wont be too disappointed.

The film follows a seasoned group of bank robbers made up of Jesse Attica (Chris Brown), Jake Attica (Michael Ealy), A.J.(Hayden Christensen), Gordon Cozier (Idris Elba) & John Rahway (Paul Walker). They have been making large heists once a year for 5-6 years and have never been caught, living the good life with fast cars & fast woman, however, on this day an old heist buddy who went away in prison after being caught on a job 5-6 years prior, comes back to rustle their feathers. Dalonte Rivers aka Ghost(Tip 'T.I' Harris) comes to them with the plan for one big heist, but feelings are cold between him & the group, plus he lost his girl Lilly (Zoe Saldana)to ex-heist partner Jake, now can they really trust him ? Meanwhile the cops, who are played by Jack Welles (Matt Dillon) & Eddie Hatcher (Jay Hernandez) a pair of veteran detectives who have got each others back, are fighting the bad guys & the crap of they're day to day lives, and are trying to crack who the gang are, after the most recent heist(at the beginning of the film) seem to be stumped, but this time they get just the lucky break they were looking for!

In conclusion, i thought the premise was good and the story lines within the film, although were good, they didn't really have time to mature enough with the films fast camera action, gung ho action film style. This film is very much a B grade reworking of the fantastic Heat with Al Pacino & Robert De Niro, but even though the acting in Takers was solid, your not going to best a film like that, ever. This film tries hard, and is enjoyable enough, but is certainly aimed for an audience that want action first and foremost. Recommended, if your looking for an action film fix.

2.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BEGINNING AND THEN NOTHING, 23 Sep 2013

The movie starts out like a great action film as a group called "The Takers" pull off an elaborate heist of $2 million from a bank robbery. Meanwhile a cop, who does not use proper police protocol (imagine that in L.A.) is in an apartment building performing a bust. The Takers like fine drink, fine automobiles, fine cigars, and fine women. After the action scene the movie slows down. They exploded the helicopter too soon. Andy Sidaris says it has to be near the end. The cop was unlikable as we root for the bad guys. Unfortunately the movie never picks up to where it was as good as the opening heist. The story had nothing new to offer and I found myself getting bored with it.

2.0 out of 5 stars awfull camera work, 24 Jan 2011
This review is from: Takers [DVD] [2011] (DVD)
Here is one movie destroyed by camera work. When will these idiots realize that to change camera every 2 seconds and prevent the audience to follow the actions is not really fun to watch. This movie could have been a great one ,but this camera work is so annoying. How can you enjoy a chase if you can't even follow it.There is so many people are complaining about this but Hollywood keep using the same stupid editing.I will stop watching action movies until they film them properly. They ruined this one too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sad and Bad, 15 April 2011

It is not often I am moved to write a bad review, but this film is awful. I am not even going to try and attempt to put how bad it is into words, suffice to say that it has a very weak plot, one dimensional characters, more cliches than you can shake a stick at and an overall impression that you are watching an overly long pop video.
I did make myself sit through the whole thing just to see how bad it was. And boy oh boy is it dire.

2.0 out of 5 stars Takers the mick. A poor bank heist, 16 Feb 2011

An almost jokey, run of the mill action drama, ticking the boxes with some terrible acting and a dry plot. Glossy without being flossy, this film brings together an odd bunch who plan a bank robbery. This is more like a short mock film for the MTV Awards ad break than the slick action bank heist 'buster it dreams to be.

A real mix of a cast and thus a real mixture of a film. Idris Elba (from The Wire) stars, alongside... pants rapper T.I, has-been Matt Dillon, a desperate Paul Walker and a ludicrously placed Chris Brown - the R&B singer. Have they simply chosen this cast to create a female-friendly action film?

A poor flick, don't bother, instead watch THE TOWN!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unoriginal But Fun, 9 July 2014

Like so many films released, everything in Takers you have seen before. But thanks to the inventive heist and great ensemble cast, Takers is entertaining. The characters feel slightly underdeveloped but that doesn't matter too much in an actioner. Recommended

Action packed thriller with a cast of great actors, including Idris Elba and the late and sorely missed Paul Walker. Recommend to other film goes - keeps you on the edge of your seats.

Great storyline. The best action scene of 2011 is the armored truck scene. A lot of great actors in this film.
R.I.P Paul Walker

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty run-of-the-mill heist movie, 4 Mar 2014
This review is from: Takers (DVD)
This film has all the makings of a decent film – reasonable actors, a bit of action and some slick direction, but, for some reason, it just never seems to attain the right balance.

It’s about a gang of five robbers who rob places. And, unlike other films where the ‘heroes’ are thieves, these guys simply aren’t that likable. They steal from the rich and that’s about it. Therefore we can’t really root for them. This would be okay, if it didn’t feel like they were trying to be portrayed as decent people (which they’re blatantly not!).

Then, on the other hand, we have the two police officers who are hot on their heels. It would be easy to make them the good guys and the robbers the bad guys. However, these two aren’t much more likeable than their criminal counterparts. Therefore we have no one really to root for. Sure, they all look cool, but we still don’t like them.

Plus the first hour is pretty dull. I was getting quite bored, but at least the last act did save it. The heist is pretty exciting and it saves all the best parts for last.

It’s nothing special, but it’s slightly better than a lot of its contemporaries. If you’re in the mood for a light sort of heist movie then this is it, but I doubt anyone will remember it in a few weeks time!
