5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the year (so far), 17 May 2010

After hearing some Joe Pug online at various places and on his own site, I bought this thinking it would be a good album in a solid, 7 out of 10 kind-of way.

I was wrong. It is fantastic. Quality lyrics and storytelling, my favourites being Bury Me Far (From My Uniform), Unsophisticated Heart and Not So Sure. But to be honest, there is not a single track on the album that is poor. The music is good and perfectly blends with the lyrics.

I would suggest fans of Josh Ritter, Iron and Wine, Ray Lamontagne and other singer songwriters would be impressed. I am.

4.0 out of 5 stars second album, 30 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

I bought this because I loved the previous album and having seen him live at Greenman 2012 wanted to check out more of his stuff. It is good but for some reason does not have the same resonance for me. Still worth a listen though

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Don't Shoot This Messenger!, 13 Feb 2011
This review is from: Messenger (Audio CD)
If you like intelligent, articulate song-writing. If you want songs that make you think. If you believe songs should should be crafted and shaped and beaten and tempered. If you treasure the craft and the wit and the depth of a storyteller. If your musical taste stretches or touches anything from Dylan to The National to Low Anthem to Josh Ritter to Okkervil River to Micah P Hinson to Bon Iver - to anything where music and lyrics matter then Joe Pug and Messenger are for you.
Give him a chance - you won't be disappointed - you will be far better person with Joe in your life rather than out of it!
Log on - listen to his music - buy the cd - and have a beer!
Enjoy! (please!)
