"Big Noise New York", a little known Donald Fagen song is the killer track here. It's delivered beautifully by these two.
However, the entire album is worth a listen, and it seems to this reviewer to build momentum as it moves through.
For those readers unfamiliar with the artists: Carolyn Leonhart is a very sassy New Yorker, who is a genre-uncategorisable yet extremely listenable singer. She's been employed by Steely Dan for the past decade. And those guys only go for the best.
Wayne Escoffery is a muscular yet musical saxophonist. And also Ms Leonhart's hubby.
"Where there is love" is a great take on a Patrice Rushen song. And the original composition "Straight to you" achieves something rare - it's a swinging and thoroughly modern jazz track that really swings with emotionally potent lyrics.
This is great music. And it's really fresh. Definitely worth checking out.
