We've love board games and pen and paper games in our house and have been playing Dobble for over two years now.

We love it!

It's dead easy to pick up in one minute flat - It's a quick game and won't bore you to death 3 hours later - it's small and portable and perfect for travel and literally anybody can play it!

What is it?

It comes in a round tin which fits in your hand and contains 55 round cards. The cards are very good quality and have nice clear images on them. There's an instruction booklet which has all you need to know about the five games. All dead easy! But great fun.

How do you play it?

There's 5 different ways to play this - but they all work the same! The game has 50 pictures to choose from. On each card there are 8 pictures out of the 50 - these pictures feature on all the cards but are different sizes and may be upside down - on it's side. You need to be the first to spot a picture on a card that matches a picture on your your card.

It sounds easy - and it is but. . .under pressure against your 6 years old with perfect eyesight and the reactions of a cobra - it's harder than you might think! Quite funny too at times!

I've uploaded a few pics of two cards - see if you can spot the matching pics!

One of our favourite games - highly recommended.

What a cracking little game! Such a simple concept - easily understood by our 6 year old son. And I still can;t work out how all the cards only have one match - brilliant!

Be the fastest to spot two matching symbols between two cards! There are 55 cards, 50 different symbols and eight per card. There is ALWAYS two matching symbols, and only two, between ANY two cards! The cards come in a tin the diameter of a roll of brown tape but not quite as tall, so it is easy to store and to take with you on holiday.

A game takes about five minutes, or there is a points based tournament of the five mini games if you want to extend it. Great fun and very competitive, creating plenty of excitement and laughter. If you want a longer game or are playing with lots of people, you could always buy a second tin and combine them! If you are buying for four to eight years olds, then it is worth considering the simplified Dobble Kids version which has more easily recognisable symbols for younger children.

There are five mini games as follows:

The towering inferno - Spot the symbol on your own card that matches one on the top of the draw pile before your opponents. Most cards wins. I would say this is the main game intended, with the others being variants. Great way to play. My favourite.

The well - Share the cards out and then try to get rid of your pile the fastest by matching a symbol on your card to that on top of discard pile to get rid of it. Last one to discard all their cards loses. Pretty much the reverse of the first game.

The hot potato - Played in rounds. Match a symbol on your card to an opponents and then add yours to their pile. Largest pile at the end loses. This one is most exciting with lots of players.

Gotta catch them all! - Played in rounds. Players try to find a matching symbol on a central card face up on the table with one on any of the players cards. When a player finds a match they take that card. When all cards have been claimed a new round is started with a new central card to match to. The biggest pile at the end of each round wins.

The poisoned gift - Find a match between an opposing players card and a card drawn from a pile and add it to their pile. Smallest pile wins. A bit of a change of tac and a great way to spice up tournament play. For three or more players, you may find that you unfairly target one player though, even just subconsciously because it is easier to focus your attention on one pile. If you are playing with several adults and children the adults can use this game to boost the children's scores by subtley targeting other adults and giving the kids a easy ride!

Another variant we like to play:
The draw pile is face down with a middle card that remains the same all the way through. Each player has a card face up on the table and matches a symbol on their card with one on a central card face up. When you find a match, you take another card from the draw pile and add to your pile face up and continue. The winner is the one with the biggest pile at the end. Keeping the same central card all the way through means that you can find a match increasingly quickly as the game progresses, which heightens the tension and results in panic and hilarity! Great fun.

Great game. Highly recommended.

Great card game and at, say £5 or £6 it would be 5* but at over £12 it is vastly overpriced. What you receive is a 'sweet' tin in a box with 55 round, but very thin, cards. The cards could easily have been made thicker and more robust but in the hands of 'grabby' five to nine year olds these won't last very well. So, in summary, great game but vastly overpriced.

Super super game. My 7 year old loves this, it can easily be popped in her bag for a school outing or something as it's light and small to carry around and she's quickly the most popular girl as everyone wants to play and as many as you want can join in. My 4 year old can also play but it's a little tricky for her. My 7
year old can beat her daddy which she loves! Great gift for others if you're looking for something different as the tin makes a lovely gift.
