5.0 out of 5 stars Ignore current reviews of the Kindle version of this book they are talking about something else.
The reason is simply that none of them is actually a review of THIS book. and hence not relevant here. Neither is this, of course, so Amazon should probably just remove the lot!

2.0 out of 5 stars A hard read - disappointing
After watching the film I opened this book expecting it to be a fun and exciting read. I was hoping that i would really like it and then I would have a new series to read. However, it has too much description for my liking and I could not

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not what I thought I was buying, 6 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials: A Multiple Allegory: Attacking Religious Superstition in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Paradise Lost: Attacking ... Witch and the Wardrobe' and ' Paradise Lost' (Kindle Edition)
I thought I was purchasing Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, it was only after downloading it I realized it was an analogy of the books by Leonard F. Wheat. somewhat disappointing.

Dreadful book. Would not recommend. Misleading title. Utter waste of money. Will not score! (But have to give one star to submit.
Call not believe he genuine Philip Pullman work from the real Dark material is not available via Kindle. If you want Northern Lights/The Golden Compass and the other two books which make up the trilogy, well you look like you will have to buy the paper back edition. Very disappointed

1.0 out of 5 stars The lousy way this is marketed - not a review of this book., 29 April 2011
PLEASE NOTE: At the top of the browser page for this book it says "Start reading Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials on your Kindle in under a minute...." This is a misleading and despicable piece of marketing. YOU CANNOT READ THAT BOOK ON YOUR KINDLE IN UNDER A MINUTE - IT IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE KINDLE. The book referred to here is a commentary of the book by another author.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I wanted, 25 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials: A Multiple Allegory: Attacking Religious Superstition in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Paradise Lost: Attacking ... Witch and the Wardrobe' and ' Paradise Lost' (Kindle Edition)
I wanted to read Philip Pullman's Northern Lights on my kindle. I had been told by a friend that it was the first book of His Dark Materials, so I ordered it.
It does not contain his stories at all, which I found very confusing. Perhaps the description of this book should be more explicit about its contents!
I have since discovered that, inexplicably, the book I did want -"Northern Lights"- is not available on Kindle. I am very disappointed and rather disillusioned.

I had not quite realised what this book was about but once I started reading it I found it fascinating. However, one would need to have read the trilogy first.

I returned this book and received a full refund. It was not what I was expecting. Having Philip Pullman's name confused me into thinking this was his "Dark Materials". This price made me think so too.

I did not read the synopsis carefully, so thought I was buying the trilogy itself. This Allegory was a huge disappointment.

2.0 out of 5 stars well, d'uh..., 15 Aug 2011
This review is from: Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials: A Multiple Allegory: Attacking Religious Superstition in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Paradise Lost: Attacking ... Witch and the Wardrobe' and ' Paradise Lost' (Kindle Edition)
Does the writer of this book honestly think that the HDM trilogy being an allegory and attacking Christian theology is a mystery or a surprise to anyone?? Come on! How anyone could read the books and miss the parallels is beyond me. Several quid for explaining the obvious?? Serious waste of money. Seems like someone is trying to make a buck or two off HDM's popularity.
