The Secret referred to throughout the book is (I believe) the following:

First CREATE A VIVID PICTURE IN YOUR MIND OF EXACTLY WHAT IT IS YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE (could be something small, or perhaps your Major Definite Purpose).

Then, and this is the key part, CULTIVATE A BURNING DESIRE to attain it.

Sounds simple? And it is, but here is the magic in the method... A burning desire is really the ENERGY that you put into believing you can obtain your goal. Other words to describe this state could be PASSIONATE DESIRE, POSITIVE DESIRE OR SUPER-ENTHUSED DESIRE. What these powerful emotive states do is plant your image firmly into your Subconscious Mind, once the Subconscious accepts the idea then it immediately goes to work on realising it for you.

A HIGHLY ENERGETIC person can impress ideas onto his Subconscious Mind much more effectively than someone of average energy levels. I believe this chiefly explains the difference in achievement between people like Bob Proctor, Anthony Robbins etc. and the vast majority of readers who try to emulate them. Without their energy levels it is just much harder and slower to get results.

It is in the area of PERSONAL ENERGY that I think Napoleon Hill provides his best and most original chapter in Think and Grow Rich: Sexual Transmutation. This whole chapter is about channelling our abundant sexual energy and desire into our images/goals. He doesn't talk about chastity but instead taking most of our desire for physical contact and moving this into higher purposes - thus enabling us to tap into our Subconcious Mind easier, and to be more creative and successful as a result.

Here's something for you... take a look at highly successful people on TV, in Business, Politics and Sport etc. You will surely notice that they all have an abundance of energy. Far more than the average man on the street, who seems lifeless in comparison.

So it is energy that we want, and this can be built up by diet, breathing, exercise, meditation, nature, positive thoughts and of course Sexual Transmutation! (which Napoleon Hill says is the only way to reach Genius level)

All the other `Success Traits': Concentration, Persistence, Confidence etc. are all massively enhanced by having LOTS OF PERSONAL ENERGY.

To recap, this is what I believe to be the secret in `Think and Grow Rich':

1. A STRONG DEFINITE MENTAL IMAGE OF WHAT YOU WISH TO ATTAIN.

2. THEN BUILD A BURNING (ENERGETIC) DESIRE/BELIEF THROUGH CONSTANT IMAGING THAT IMPRESSES ITSELF POWERFULLY ONTO YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND.

You may be thinking what about ACTION? Well once the Subconscious Mind knows exactly what you want it will prompt you into the best course of action to take. And let's not forget the ENERGETIC PERSON has no trouble taking action as they are naturally DYNAMIC and PURPOSEFUL.

In the Preface of the book Napoleon Hill mentions that the Secret is in two parts, and he hints that the first part is `Everything begins with an idea'. Well that is the deciding what it is that you wish to achieve. After that it is all about persuading the Subconscious Mind that you will obtain it. The reason the Secret cannot be bought for any price is simply that you have to work to build up your energy levels and to convince your Subconscious Mind that you can achieve your aims. There are sacrifices to be made - but with worthy rewards.

Just remember that your goals should be positive and benefit all parties.

Finally a quick thought on Master Mind groups. When two or more people are 'harmoniously' committed to the realisation of a goal this of course multiplies the available energy. This in turn helps to bring about faster and easier results. Try it and see.

Good luck, and happy imaging! :-)

If you like it, fine, but it wasn't for me. I found the religious sentiment a bit too much & chapter.3 was torturous to read & it just seemed to go downhill from there.

Anyone who reads this needs to take into account when it was written as some of the writing style feels like it is from an age long gone.

It your one of those types who can get into those "Believe & you will do it! Harness the power of the positive mind" type books, MAYBE you'll kind this useful.

But let me put it this way, if you read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" & then read this, you might find it hard to take it seriously.

This book is a must read for all those in the networking industry or indeed working your own business and wanting to succeed. Anyone who is looking towards any kind of entrepreneurship should read and reread this book. Although it is an older book it comes highly recommended from people that I have worked with and as such gives it a priority as a must read. Anyone running a business has to change and grow and this book will help you do that. Self development is a fundamental part of a business and this will definitely help you along the way.

I know that many people rave about this book. Don't get me wrong, it isn't all bad but it basically says that if you want to make it you have to get off your butt and work to get there. Much of what is here reads like a propaganda exercise and appears to have been written to spur post war/depression Americans into action. It is dated, especially comments like men go bald because they wear tight hats! (seriously). Now I know where I went wrong... hold on though, I've never owned a hat?

I typically purchased this one in a hope to be inspired to turn into the next Warren Buffet. Obviously I am not a Warren Buffet nor likely to be in my life time.

The book is concise and covers the ground rules of becoming more market savvy, I suppose.

I would never decry such a book however, this one I have to say is a work in progress. Will it turn you into a rich person? Who knows.

Is a very deep book and can mangle your head in some parts especially around the middle, however I have been told that it is more relevant in parts if you have actually had experience within certain sections of the book otherwise it just loses you. Would differently need to re-read after a certain period of time.

A fantastic read and really focuses on goal strategy - bare in mind that this book was written just after the great depression so really focuses on financial wealth as the goal but this can be applied to any goal not just money!

This book lays out fundamental key truths. Worth reading many more times, as you will find deeper meaning and value for yourself. After the first reading, leave the book down and think carefully about what you have read.

A well research topic and people need to put into practice everything that Napoleon has told you within this book; otherwise your life will remain the same as it was before you read the book.
