AZTEC CAMERA
"ORIGINAL ALBUM SERIES" contains
Five original albums in a card box.

The CDs themselves are housed in miniture replica album sleeves with the original art.

Now some people hate them but I love them they are easier to store and at this price they are a steal.
(AT the time of writing there was no track listing on Amazon- they have finally got around to it which makes the following a bit redundant)

I thought a track listing would be handy to compare them to ones you may have to see if there are any extra tracks or remastered versions.
From experience I have often found that many of the other sets from different artists are in actual fact the remastered versions with additional tracks or at the very least a mixture of the two.

Still an amazingly cheap set with the neat cardboard sleeves- heck someone has got to love them like I do??

If you spot any mistakes just add a comment and I will rectify it Toot Sweet
(and yes I know it's not spelled that way!!)

Includes the albums High Land, Hard Rain (1983), Knife (1984), Stray (1990), Dreamland (1993) and Frestonia (1995). Rhino Records release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent pop, 1 May 2010

I have followed Aztec Camera from the early days. Roddy Frame, from what I can make out essentially 'the band', is an interesting singer/songwriter able to subtly move across musical genres (an out-and-out pop song one moment, a jazz tinged ballad the next) with real skill. His lyrics are well crafted (listen to 'Let Your Love Decide' from Dreamland) and intelligent. There isn't an album in this collection (a real bargain by the way - 5 great CDs for 15!) that doesn't contain a clutch of fantastically melodic songs that would stand comparison with many more well known bands of the 80s and 90s such Prefab Sprout or the Bluetones. When listening to all 5 I'm also struck by the consistency of this band's output - you'd expect to find a duff one amongst nearly a decade and half's output but that's not the case here. Start at High Land High Rain (1983) and go through to Frestonia (1995), and all you'll hear is just song after song of beautiful music. I wonder what Mr Frame is doing now?

4.0 out of 5 stars A Genius, 3 July 2010
This review is from: Original Album Series (Audio CD)
Roddy Frame is , in my humble opinion , a true musical genius who can write beautiful music and lyrics whenever he feels like it . Aztec Camera (his band) were one of the very best and every album has many (if different ) charms .
All the cd's in this box set are superb but i take a star away because they are here in their basic form , still amazing but long overdue some remastering and a reissue programme with new sleevenotes and bonus tracks etc.
If you're a newcomer or just want to replace old classics fair enough but if you want newer takes on these albums you're out of luck .
PS A previous reviewer wonders what Roddy Frame is doing now , well the answer is that he's still making superb music but under his own name ! Be sure to check out his 3 solo albums but especially the second one "SURF" which is a true masterpiece and possibly the best he's ever made.

5 absolutely brilliant albums that take you back a bit when Scottish indie music was world beating. Only bought onr of these when albums came in record form but I'm sure we all heard a good few of the tracks from a decent radio DJ
