5.0 out of 5 stars Youth and Hillage are back - Huzzah!
I'd almost given up on Alex's work, but then almost out of the blue he's started working with Youth and Steve Hillage again, and the result is quite simply marvellous!
I wasn't sure about it at first, but The Dream has really, really grown on me (unlike the last 10+ years worth of material - OK, must admit that I'm more of 89-92 period Orb Fan). In fact I'm...

2.0 out of 5 stars A Dark Stain on Your Finest Suit
Having decided to re-visit a few of the Orb's "middle" albums (i.e. after Orblivion and before Baghdad Batteries), I am suddenly reminded why this particular offering was returned henceforth at the time of purchase.

This really is poor. More vocal tracks than Cydonia, though seemingly worse this time around - Beautiful Day is tolerable, but Vuja De really is...

On "The Dream" Dr. Paterson et al continue with the sound settled on with 1997's "Orblivion," only in my opinion this is the superior album. It's an easy, dubby ride with some cheery samples, although The Orb seem to have developed quite an indistinct production style after their first few albums, which I'm not fond of.

Despite some misgivings, it's still worth a listen, especially for the fan.

3.0 out of 5 stars not impressed : (, 3 Mar 2008

i had high hopes for this album, getting back together some of the dudes from the orb's previous glory days such as steve hillage et al. sadly though the songs are cheese-mongous "mother nature" - eh? the orb = head nodding bass, otherworldly ambiance, fun and inspiring samples; many of the tracks do encompass this of course. "mother nature" though is like the biggest load of tosh I've heard in a long time, and it like puts a whole downer on the proceeds and leaves a nasty taste in the mouth - is this is what has become of my beloved orb..? sob sniff

2.0 out of 5 stars The Orb "The Dream", 18 Jan 2009
This review is from: The Dream (Audio CD)
If you have been a fan of The Orbs early work then avoid this like the the plague. An odd and really quite a poor effort and not up to the usual standard you expect from the gods of all things Ambient.
I gave it five listens in one sitting and it did not grow on me.Poor show.:(
