4.0 out of 5 stars If you don't know what your doing, then don't buy items
Having seen that the only review for this item gave it one, star I felt the need to point out a couple points.
1) No where does it say that this is a de-matting tool. It it designed to remove DEAD HAIR not knots and tangles.
2) The main reason this would distress your dog is because you don't know what your doing. (Google is your friend)
3) when in doubt,...

If you know how to hand strip a dog then this item is perfectly fine for at home use and, as long as your dog is used to being brushed, should be no problem at all. Just be sure not to go overboard.

Arrived promptly, does strip hair but do expect slow results which is usual for this type of knife. Good service.

Having tried various brush and combs I was expecting the striping knife to be just all the other things I have tried but was very very pleasantly surprised ,fantastic the amount of hair removed ,I carry this on all my walks

the hair is falling off with this!

Im surprised my rabbit isn't bald with the amount of hair that comes out.

this is good for getting the superficial layer of the coat off to help with moulting.
I had to look up instructions of how to use it properly; so after some experience; here's my take on it:

- hold it like a potato-pealer, with the flat side up and the 'teethy' side facing down (this will make sense when you see it).
- with your grip, you should be able to rest your thumb on the blade of the 'knife' easily in your hand position
- hold the blade (the side closest to you) to the coat of hair; in the direction of the hair. (no pressure; just gently touch)
-stroke your thumb, through the hair (against the direction of growth) until your thumb has trapped some fur between your thumb and the blade.
- Bareley apply any pressure! just have your thumb REST with the fur underneath.
- now gently move the 'kinfe' towards you (in the direction of hair growth)
- any loose hair in the top-coat of your beautiful pet will be removed!

repeat this over and over until your pet gets bored and walks off.

I think if this item had been made in the same style as the mikka stripping knife for coarse coats I would have made more use of it. For me the handle made it less comfortable to use than the coarse knife.
