5.0 out of 5 stars A treat from start to finish
Of the New Order spinoffs, this sounds more like New Order than any of the rest. And Gillian is just as effective a singer as Sumner which begs the question - why did she never sing for New Order? Moving along, there are some absolute treats here and "Selfish" in particular would not be out of place on a New Order best of. To be fair, every track is a winner and its...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a lost electro-pop classic, sadly
"The Other Two and You" could be considered as a companion piece to New Order's vastly superior "Republic", given that it was recorded more or less at the same time and used the same producer. On that basis it is probably just about worthy of re-issue - whether it's worthy of your cash is a different matter.

In retrospect, it would seem to me that The Other Two...

Moving along, there are some absolute treats here and "Selfish" in particular would not be out of place on a New Order best of. To be fair, every track is a winner and its obvious that "the other two" have had more influence on New Orders sound than you might expect. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cd from the "forgotten" half of New Order, 13 Feb 2013

Like New Order with female lead vocals & minus Hook's bass "leads". Only strange/experimental track is the last one which is very different to the rest of the album. Try it, buy it you'll love it.

"The Other Two and You" could be considered as a companion piece to New Order's vastly superior "Republic", given that it was recorded more or less at the same time and used the same producer. On that basis it is probably just about worthy of re-issue - whether it's worthy of your cash is a different matter.

In retrospect, it would seem to me that The Other Two might have had to face dual pressures when recording this LP. Firstly, the artistic pressure of having to come up with something at least as good as Electronic and Revenge. That box is just about ticked by the opening three tracks, but the record falters (in some places very badly) after that. Secondly, the financial pressure faced by a record label on the verge of insolvency: there are things on here that would not ordinarily, I suspect, have been allowed to see the light of day by any sane A&R department - for example the vocals on "Moving On".

Overall, it's a bit panicy - although under the circumstances I don't think it's necessarily fair to blame the artists. But it comes to something when the bonus tracks sound better than a lot of the source material (in fact "Saved by the bonus tracks" was my original title for this review). At least "Tasty Fish" still sounds good after all these years.

Big New Order fans in a forgiving and nostalgic frame of mind will probably find at least something to enjoy here. For anyone else though this is a no-go.

2.0 out of 5 stars not up to New Order standard, 9 Jun 2011

This clearly sounds like New Order of the period and if they had the songs it could of worked, but unfortunately they don't and while it's decent in places, overall it's a just another rather boring record. I'd recommend this for die hard NO fans only, casual listeners should give it a miss.
