5.0 out of 5 stars Its prog but contemporary and informed., 5 Aug 2010
This review is from: Dream Get Together (Audio CD)
Its California in the 1970s again. Shimmering guitars, solid grooves, the gentle pattering of table, extended jams and lots of reverb combine to make a psychedelic/pop/prog hybrid that evokes Pink Floyd, The Dead & ELO. It maybe lavish but its controlled and fun and thats why it works. Careful with that Hat jigs, twinkles and rocks in equal measure, with the layered vocals linking the various musical passages. There's a bit of Hillage style space guitar in the middle which is revisited later for a full on work out. Hunter has a swirling 12 string riff which is layered upon to create a platform for a great spacey synth solo which leads us to a thrash style guitar riff in the background before leaving naked strings at the end which evoke Beth Orton's He Cries Your Name. Its prog but contemporary and informed.
