5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent critique of the virtual age, 10 Jan 2011
This review is from: We Live in Public [DVD] [2008] (DVD)
Excellent DVD. This documentary not only shows the liberating aspects of the enfolding virtual world but more importantly the dangerous and dominating aspects to it that are often overlooked but growing in number every day. Josh Harris believed the internet to be a realm of pure freedom and creativity that was a positive force. However his view would soon change when he puts his own life under the scrutiny of the webcam as this documentary shows- leaving him disillusioned, penniless and seeking an agrarian lifestyle abroad away from the virtual world. This documentary is a wake up call to all those who spend more time writing about their everyday actions on facebook then they do living their own lives. A must see film.

4.0 out of 5 stars You Don't Have To Have A Point To Be Entertaining, 13 May 2010
This review is from: We Live in Public [DVD] [2008] (DVD)
We Live In Public promotes itself as an insight into the way the Internet is affecting our lives by showing Josh Harris as a sort of Web Prophet. The reality is the documentary lacks any clear point and consists mainly of archived footage of his activities with Psuedo.com and particularly his 'Quiet' project. But that's no bad thing.

It is really a must see for anyone interested in the history of business on the Internet or anyone interested in the lives of famous entrepreneurs. The documentary is well edited and enjoyable to sit through, it gives you an insight into what was a very remarkable time in history.

I would have given it five stars, however the way this is being promoted as having links with modern day social networking is tentative at best. It is really a voyeuristic view into a car crash consisting of a highly introverted personality, artistic aspirations, aggressive business and huge amounts of wealth - for that is very entertaining.
