This is a complex slow burning thriller with exciting outbursts of violence. Set in Tijuana and beautifully filmed the story is about a drugs cartel where the ailing head played by Andy Garcia has handed over power to his young deputy. His illegitimate son however feels that he should have had control of the cartel and moves against him. In the meantime the new boss is dealing with the Taliban and has attracted the attention of the CIA/DEA who also want him taken out. In comes Ray Liotta as a burnt out hitman to do the hit but for whom? The story twists and turns with a surpising ending. Our own Jason Connery also gets a role as the son's right hand man and Valerie Cruz gives a convincing performance as the tart with a heart who gives hitman Ray new hope. Presented in letterbox format with an excellent audio track making full use of the available soundfield.

This review is mostly copied from my review of the Polish Cover version
The Line is a 2009 action-crime film and features Javier Salazar (Andy García) asthe dying head of a Mexican drugs cartel so hands over control to his cocky nephew, Pelon (Esai Morales). Pelon is arranging to move from cocaine into Heroin, allowing the Afghan producers to run the drug supply line. The Americans are nervous and call in an operative to resolve the problem. Assassin Mark Shields (Ray Liotta) is also on the spot having been hired to track Pelon, but he is haunted by a past ‘hit’ in which he killed an innocent young woman.
This is a relaxed paced thriller with some intense and graphic outbursts of strong physical violence but it certainly isn’t action packed as the cover suggests, rather it relies on a strong storyline with some really good plot twists. The acting is good as is the picture quality, whilst the soundtrack fits well. The disc features play, scene selection, trailer, settings [English 5.1 default, Polish 5.1, subtitles on/off] and previews.
If you like neat twists with a decent plot that make you think with a little graphic violence thrown in, this might be for you, but if its sex, nudity and violence you’re seeking, look elsewhere. A good **** rating, but the seemingly slow pace in places stops it becoming a *****.

Anyone wanting just to see a fast action, non-stop butt-kicking film, as the DVD Production Description states should go for a cheap Steven Seagal film where good acting is the last reqisite but if it's something with a LITTLE more depth thenyou could do worse than give this a try?
I'm NOT a fan of Andy Garcia at all so the less I see of him on screen the better however Ray Liotta always trys to do good with whatever crap he is handed to act with as in this situation and he turns in a blinding performance. He is the ageing hitman/bounty hunter hired by we don't know who - even the CIA don't know he's there, and he gets beaten up and robbed by a gang of street kids after earlier showing how he can take care of himself, so he IS vulnerable, which makes you like him!
The main brutality in this film is dished out by one bad guy to the other and there is plenty of it to which of course the corrupt local police turn a blind eye. This film is one of Liottas' best ACTING performances if the viewer really watches him bury himself into the character. Also features Armand Assante, Danny Trejo.

.... by some poor reviews of this film. Well filmed, superb acting, cracking twist at the end, just when you thought you knew the conclusion to the story, wham ! Didn't see that coming. Some superb arty imagery dispersed throughtout the story. I really enjoyed this. Don't be put off by the previous ratings. You won't regret it.

I was drawn to this movie mainly because of Liotta. I thought he was fantastic in Goodfellas and hoped for more of the same in this movie. Boy was I disappointed.. The movie was slow and boring. The characters were unbelievable in their roles and even the "shoot out" scenes were mediocre at best. For me there was no major climax to the movie, just more of a pop and fizzle. I would have been better watching the chick flick my wife wanted us to watch instead. If you are torn as to whether you want to see this movie or not, I would say give this a miss and be thankful you haven't wasted your time.

Why is there a facility to leave decent feedback and / or a review as its now called, years ago if someone didn't moan or complain it should mean there is nothing to moan and complain about, if folk don't have a backbone its not our problem its theirs.

The film offers some insight into the complexity of gang hierrachy and linkage between "goodies" and "baddies" inovled in drug smuggling into the US. There is an interesting twist to the plot. The photography is superb and well acted. I would recommend this film to anyone interested in action films.
