4.0 out of 5 stars The River People
Very well written book. Interesting and strong main characters. For an entertaining, light read this is the ideal book to choose.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wanting more
Pleasant enough but bland, left me wanting more action, everything revolved around whether two people would marry or not, that could have been dealt with quickly and moved on to some action

I an struggling with this read, it is not well written and there is no excitement involved, would be ideal for a teenage read as it is more about girls and boys finding husbands and wives than a tribal adventure.

I read this book all in one go, which is unusual for me. I couldn't tear myself away from this story as it was a really different book for me. It is a simple story of a young girls fight to tkae care of her people and be a leader of a native Indian tribe in a mans world.
River Song is a strong charcter and although the book is written in such a way that would appeal to children (quite simplistic and without any huge descriptive paragraphs) it kept my attention as it was an small insight into the lives and workings of a tribe, something I had no prior knowledge of.
River Songs acceptance as a leader was well written and her bravery in the face of uncertainty, the death of her beloved father and the unwanted and frightening prospect of marriage to man she slowly realises she doesn't love, is well put down.
The reader becomes emotionally atatched to River Song and her people, you do sympathise with her struggle as she loses the friendship of Fast Runner and tries to make amends and you do feel the terror and fear she exoeriences as she fights with Walks With Pumas.
This is a well crafted book which will only take a few hours to read if like me you don't put it down. I would reccommend it for children and adults alike and if the author has done the right research and this is not just a novel based on imagination, you might learn something too.
A very good book for readers of all ages.
