5.0 out of 5 stars More Laughs and Chuckles Bites The Dust This Season, 15 Feb 2010

This review is from: Mary Tyler Moore: Complete Sixth Season [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
"The Mary Tyler Moore Show" Season 6 makes it to DVD and surely thanks must go to Oprah Winfrey for doing a special Mary Tyler Moore reunion show in 2008,fans thought they'd have to buy the entire season after the season4 release but after Oprah's special,season5 came out a few months later and now,season6.
As always with this show, amongst all the many laughs provided, there are touching moments too,Lou(Ed Asner)and Mary Richards(Mary Tyler Moore)attend Lou's ex wife's Edie's marriage,Mary going to give Lou support and then needing it,herself!
Mary gets a new apartment, all MTM fans including myself, prefer the orginal one,we see a welcome guest appearance -via a telephone call in "Mary Richards Falls In Love"-to Mary's best friend Rhoda(Valerie Harper)and her husband Joe(David Groh)you can hear someone in the audience gasp "Rhoda!" when Ms Harper, first appears.
The classic episode "Chuckles Bites The Dust" is in season6,again very clever writing and performances, explores the fact people can laugh at odd things and make daft jokes,as death makes us all uncomfortable.
The hilarious Ted Baxter(Ted Knight)finally marries long term girfriend Georgette(Georgia Engel)in "Ted's Wedding",the late John Ritter playing the young vicar, who marries them while wearing a tennis oufit.
Future Golden Girl Betty White is so good at playing the acid tongued "smiling cobra",the man hungry Sue-Ann Nivens and when she finally beds Lou in "Once I Had A Secret Love",her hilarious performance, earned her an Emmy.
The fallout over Mary telling Murray(Gavin MacLeod)is well acted too as Lou tells Mary, they are no longer friends, leading to some comedic sobbing by Mary.
Strange not to see the over bearing Phyllis(Cloris Leachman)around but Cloris had spun off to the sitcom "Phyllis",which although very funny only lasted two seasons,Ms Leachman does return for the last episode of MTM in season7 along with Valerie Harper.
Eileen Heckart makes two appearances in the show,"Mary's Aunt" and "Mary's Aunt Returns",Aunt Flo being very arrogant and self obsessed but as Lou points out,to make it in journalism then,Flo had to be tough.
Flo ends up being the only other MTM character apart from Lou of course,to make an appearance on the drama spin off "Lou Grant".
So enjoy this classic sitcom and enjoy Mary,Lou,Ted Murray,Sue-Ann and Georgette for some great comedy moments.
