This review is from: PHIL MICKELSON - Secrets of the short game [2009] (DVD)
I play at a tough Links course off a handicap of 11. It is said that the easiest way to improve is to work on your short game. And that is where this Dvd comes in to play !

There is no doubt that Phil is the best short game magician of his era, so when he releases a dvd you pay attention. Lets just recognise that Phil doesn't do instructional dvds, generally, and that this dvd only covers the short game. No full swing here guuys. So I bought it thinking that it is worth a go.

And I wasn't disappointed. The language is clear and precise. It is well presented and easy to understand.

It doesrecommend some stuff that isn't the norm ! Dave Pelz and the like recommend that the hcap golfer plays lower chip shots because they are easier and give better results when they go wrong.

Well no surprise here but Phil doesn't really go down this line. He simply tells you how to play the shots and leaves you to decide.

What I found best about this Dvd was to assess my own game and choose a weakness to work on. So I chose one shot to work on, the flop shot. I then watched the Dvd to get the principles clealry in my head and went away and practiced, then watched the Dvd again. If you are short on time you can just flip to the relevant chapter.

Phil is a magician, but his short game style can be emulated with practice. I am now very confident with the flop shot, it never gets flubbed or thinned and with more practice I think I could control the distance better. Again the hinge and hold principle can be understood easily and with practice will give you the type of control we dream off.

So if you are willing to put in a little practice this Dvd is great, just practice one shot at a time and get ready for the impressed looks from your weekend 4 ball.

Excellent. P. Mickelson is really a wizard in short game, and his explanations are very clear, and far from the normal (and expensive) 'pro' advises.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best DVD yet for improving your short game, 10 May 2010
This review is from: PHIL MICKELSON - Secrets of the short game [2009] (DVD)
The service I got was excellent and I am 'over the moon' with the DVD. Every golfer knows Phil Mickelson's short game is superb and he puts this across in a simple way to produce what I think must be the best DVD to improve everyone's short game. Thanks Phil, I'll never be as good as you but I'm getting there.

Mickelson has not bought many DVD's out so when he does its worth sitting up and taking notice . i know this has been out a while but i tried it as a last resort to try and cure my chipping problems. i had taken lessons, bought new wedges, tried this tried that all to no avail , however this DVD seems to of done the trick. Was a bit sceptical about a lefty coaching a righty but he is thorough and clear in his instruction, a great buy .

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth a try..., 9 May 2012

Both myself and my brother are single figure h/c golfers who have really struggled with the chipping yips in recent years, despite hours of practice, the odd chipping lesson and possession of the Pelz Short game bible. This DVD was purchased 2 mths ago after several retched rounds. After a few hours of range practice and a few rounds following PMs method, it has honestly made a noticeable difference to both our games. Well worth a try....

This review is from: PHIL MICKELSON - Secrets of the short game [2009] (DVD)
Watching Phil Mickelson play a range of stunning pitches, chips and putts, it seems like wizardry of the most devious sort; it is easy to forget the hours of practice it took to get to that standard, not to mention a large portion of personal talent.

This is a good DVD, well planned, filmed and executed to show all that is required to develop the short game, every shot from 110 yards. A natural in front of the camera and with clever editing, he shows shots from many angles, focusing on the main tenets of his individual approaches to putting, chipping and pitching.

Don't expect the wizardry right away but, with a bit of practice following his ideas, it's likely that improvement will happen. His method is not for everyone but it makes complete sense, obviously works and Mickleson is the best example there is. I particularly enjoyed the final sections when he really begins to show off, ending with a shot backwards over his head.

4.0 out of 5 stars Phil can help!, 18 Mar 2010

I bought the DVD for my wife as a birthday present but I have taken the opportunity to sit with her and watch it.
The DVD was filmed some time ago and it is clear from recent Sky transmissions of PGA Tour events that Phil is no longer practicing everything that he preaches. However, there is a great deal that the average golfer can learn and, although the sessions can get a bit technical, this DVD does provide some excellent advice and drills.
That said, as with all golf tuition, be it book or DVD, you won't get better just be purchasing the product - you have to get out and practice.
