This particular FTD CD is one of two CD albums covering the songs and outtakes from the successful movie Jailhouse Rock, with a strong Leiber and Stoller underpinning. There is a relatively small nucleus of songs with all outakes spread over the two separate releases from FTD.
It is very interesting to hear the King working and reworking songs to to the level of perfection he desired and the studio banter and general professionalism... ELvis was a craftsman in every sense of the word.He even plays bass guitar on the master perfected release of Baby I Don't Care because he was not entirely happy with the studio musician's efforts.
LET me stress this is a quality FTD release taken from original sources NOT a public domain taped release..there is a world of difference in quality.Nor, as an earlier reviewer has stated wrongly are these outtakes previously in the public domain.Simply put, the outtakes are not in the public domain and will not be for a long time yet...a limited number of outtakes have been released on previous BMG/ SONY cds and many of the outakes can be found on previous expensive bootlegs but these releases are not generally of the same quality as the master tapes used by FTD.
FTD releases are targeted for the fans as some general buyers may not want to listen to half a dozen variants of Jailhouse Rock...but believe me there are plenty of people who will pay willingly for the privilege of doing so.
