This review is from: Aboriginal Soul (Audio CD)
A wonderful album of soul, folk, reggae, jazz & roots music from contemporary Aboriginal musicians. It's not your typical `Aboriginal' comp swamped with didgeridoos and chanting, this is music from Aboriginal artists who are fusing their roots with contemporary music styles to create something fresh which listeners all over the world will feel a connection with.

Of course a compilation of `Aboriginal Soul' wouldn't live up to it's name without the world famous Gurrumul and his angelic-harmonies feature alongside his some-time band-mates the Saltwater Band for two slices of gorgeous Aboriginal folk. Also featured is Aboriginal country-blues courtesy of Archie Roach and Peter Rotumah with their melancholic, soulful laments of days gone by, epic-cinematic-jazz courtesy of Ruby Hunter's heart-breaking remembrance of her days down-and-out on the streets, Tom E Lewis and Mark A Hunter's country-dust-bowl memoirs and two paeans to a love so strong; Shellie Morris's `Swept Away', an electric-blues gem that Fleetwood Mac would be proud of and Dan Sultan's soul-stomping `Your love is like a song' which will literally knock-your-socks-off. This compilation does not disappoint.
