This review is from: Life in the Mid Atlantic (Hardcover)
Excellent book for the professional and amateur marine biologist, as well as anyone with a general interest in natural history. Absolutely stunning images and interesting text to dip in and out of. The book is about how a large marine science project on the deep-sea animals of the mid-Atlantic Ridge in the N. Atlantic is formed, comes to fruition, the many research cruises and also the animals that are sampled.

There is also artwork from Norwegian artist Ornalf Opdahl, and images from the David Shale (BBC Blue Planet - The Deep).

A lot of book for the money! Great Christmas gift for dads, and biology students alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating glimpse of deep sea life - great gift!, 14 Dec 2009

This review is from: Life in the Mid Atlantic (Hardcover)
Fascinating glimpse of deep sea life in an environment most of us will never access.

Striking pictures of weird looking sea creatures appear in Life in the Mid Atlantic - an easy to read account of an international research expedition exploring marine life in the depths of the Mid Atlantic Ridge, between Iceland and the Azores.

Should be of interest to anyone keen on marine and wildlife and wouldn't look out of place among other coffee table books.

Great to give as a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life in the Mid Atlantic, 17 April 2010

This review is from: Life in the Mid Atlantic (Hardcover)
This book demonstrates a rare skill: to make a highly specialised subject accessible to lay readers with an interest in marine life, scientific study and unusual exploration. The language is simple, the photos stunning, the story exciting and hugely informative. It well deserves the EU Descartes Prize for innovative science communication that it won in 2006.

All the passengers crossing the North Atlantic for the past 500 years had no idea what beautiful and weird stuff was swimming beneath them. Next time I look down from a jet window on a transatlantic flight, I will think happily about this book.
