5.0 out of 5 stars This bag is brilliant
The vanguard UP-Rise 43 is a great buy!

As a newcomer to serious DSLR photography, the first thing I noticed was I needed somewhere to stall all the lenses and kit.

This bag is the answer!
It holds a Nikon D70 (with a lens mounted on it), two spare lenses, a DSLR Gorilla pod, batteries, cleaning cloth and an apple, no problem.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Bag, but not very spacious
This bag was such a disappointment for me, it promises to be fantastic - a small walk around bag that can hold a reasonable amount of pro-gear. Not So.

The Good:
- Quality of Manufacturing is great
- Lots of features for such a small bag
- plenty of dividers for changing the layout (shame not enough space to really use them!)

- expandable section is a pretty good idea

The Bad:
- Side access does NOT allow you to insert or extract a DSLR with Grip - it is just too small.
- Access from the back is awkward, the opening flap only opens to 45 degrees, making it difficult to easily get to the contents - which is just daft
- Very Small camera space - I could fit my DSLR with Grip (only from the back panel only... and awkwardly) fitted with a 24-70mm lens, and EITHER a flash, or a second small-mid sized lens (very different from the claims in the description)

If they extended the bag's length by about 3 inches at the bottom, and added another inch on the expansion depth, aswell as fix the side panel access so you can actually use it with a DSLR with Grip, then you could fit a solid pro level kit (D800+grip + 24-70 f/2.8, 14-24 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, 50 f/1.4 + SB900 flash), which would mean this would be a fantastic walkaround bag, and it wouldn't be that much (noticeably) bigger, especially when the expansion slot is collapsed.

Very frustrating that these minor changes would transform this bag from useless for a reasonable amount of gear to the perfect size walkaround bag (travel, street, urbex, photowalks, etc). Personally I want the sling style bag, not a rucksack for a walkaround bag (I have a Kata Bumblebee UL-222 for a big rucksack style bag with plenty of space - but wanted something for walkaround use).

I wish bag manufacturers would get this right - it just seems that there is no ideal bag out there in most sizes because everything is compromised in some silly and unnecessary way... if only the manufacturer actually tested this with real photographers.

The side opening works really well to whip it off the shoulder and pull out the camera ready to start shooting.
The rain cover is good, wrapping right around the bag, covering all the zips.

Get one of these.
