3.0 out of 5 stars Porridge (The Best of British Comedy)
An enjoyable enough read that served a reminder as to how much I love Porridge and think of it as a classic piece of comedy. The book is mostly made up of quotes from each episode of the show, with several "Did You Know?" facts scattered about and a few brief notes from cast and crew involved in making the show. There's nothing new to see, nor has the book...

Excellent review of one of my favourite ever comedies. All of the main characters and actors are detailed and there were various things that I learned about nearly all of them. I found I sympathised with Brian Wilde that his character (Mr Barraclough) didn't get as much air-time as he felt fair, but loved the review of Fulton Mackay (Mr Mackay - arguably my favourite character apart from Fletcher). Brilliant TV series and excellent book - enjoy!

An enjoyable enough read that served a reminder as to how much I love Porridge and think of it as a classic piece of comedy. The book is mostly made up of quotes from each episode of the show, with several "Did You Know?" facts scattered about and a few brief notes from cast and crew involved in making the show. There's nothing new to see, nor has the book exhaustively been put together. The formatting on the Kindle was a bit off too, I found.

Still funny. Can show today's writers how it should be done. The writers are up there with John Sullivan and Roy Clarke. Well worth reading the humor is as fresh today as it was when first written.
