A truly moving true story about Ron Clark - a teacher in a rural elementary (primary) school in the USA. Ron is played convincingly by Matthew Perry (Chandler in "Friends"). 3.0 out of 5 stars A great cheesy movie for kids
Matthew Perry stars as a teacher who moves from a nice suburban school to one in Haarlem to do his bit for troubled kids. The story is nice and easy to watch. It has some nice inspirational and moral messages thru it too.

A truly moving true story about Ron Clark - a teacher in a rural elementary (primary) school in the USA. Ron is played convincingly by Matthew Perry (Chandler in "Friends"). The film records his move to New York to face the challenge of teaching in a deprived area of Harlem. The kids take Ron to his limits and beyond. He is ready to give up but a friend tells him that the kids will miss him, that all they've ever known is people giving up on them. He returns to work and through some novel methods starts to build bridges toward each of the children. Sometimes Ron is faced with disaster: vandalism, health problems and parents who mistrust this man who dares to believe their children might have a hope greater than surviving day to day in the ghetto. The first part of the film is really painful to watch, as is a harrowing scene when one of Ron's pupils is beaten by a brutal foster parent. As Mentioned earlier this is a true story - set against the odds. The viewer who keeps watching to the end however, will be richly rewarded. The credits at the end of the film record the academic achievements of Ron's class. I am not sure words or film can do justice to the real value of the journey; the hopes, despair, fears, laughter, pain and love shared by Ron, his pupils and their families. Highly recommended - it will soften your heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars A master piece, 9 Sep 2010

Matthew Perry is an Elementry school teacher Ron Clark who comes from a small town to New York and see how different the big city is to his home town. He brings hope to children that have been left behind by the education system and breaks the idea's and thoughts that these children will achieve nothing.

It show's us that Matthew Perry is a very gifted actor far from just being only a comic from friends. This film about Ron Clark shows that one person can make a difference in a childs life and will have you gripped throughout this film.

Absolutely loved this heart wrenching film and bought all Ron Clarkes books after as a result.
At first thought oh no Matthew Perry playing a serious role! But he was actually very convincing. Managed to shake off the thought he played Chandler in Friends! Superb acting from such a young cast.
Made me think though can a teacher be really that dedicated to their job? Ron Clarke really went over and above his role as a teacher and may have considered to have overstepped the professional boundaries, but what the heck, he got great results in the end.
A truly inspiring film, made me wish I could have Ron Clarke at my son's school!
I am actually looking to get another copy to send to the headmistress of my sons school who is taking over another school which is currently under special measures.
Great for those considering going into the teaching profession, it's not all about the money! Great for parents too, helps to to reflect on the kind of teaching your child receives at his school and how involved you are with your own child.
Brilliant!

An inspiring movie. This is the kind of teachers kids in inner city schools deserve. Loved it because it's realistic, moving and because it's a testimonial of hope for a better future for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Overcoming Adversity, 5 Mar 2013
This review is from: The Triumph [DVD] (DVD)
I've seen this on TV a couple of times and love it. Based on a true story like Dangerous Minds and Beyond the Blackboard it's about a young teacher in the US whose determination, compassion and innovative teaching style helps transform a class of disenchanted and neglected young children.
Matthew Perry's performance in this is also impressive.
