Although lego say that this is for age 7+, we played this as a family with my wife and 5 year old son and 6 year old daughter and I have to say I have never seen us so competitive. The game takes about 10 minutes to assemble as a lego construction. Then the game commences. The aim of the game is to knock your competitors off the plank and be the last one remaining. There is a huge element of ganging up on people in this game and tit for tat retaliation. Even at the tender age of 5, my son got this straight away and although he needed a little guidance about what his options were on each go, he actually won the last game by tactical play. It takes about 15 minutes to play a round of the game and we were all shouting for more. The main educational message is that life if not always fair. This sounds very harsh but it is such fun to play that it is a very benign way of getting this message across. I can't wait for next weekend to play Pirate Plank again. We have the robot lego game (can't remember its name) which is not as good. Really recommended for family fun

These are a great series of new Lego products. Of course anyone can play games with Lego models, but this Pirates and others like it in the range are actual 'board games', built from Lego. Sweet. The construction is simple, and my five year old, being obsessed with pirates, just loves it. Small risk - parts vital to the game are quite small and easily lost - I recommend not losing the box so that you've got something to store the game in, rather than jumbled loose with the rest of the Lego. There's fun and strategy here, as each player's actions can push other players' pieces towards the end of the plank and therefore out of the game. Great fun!

I made the decision to build this toy with assistance from my five year old daughter. I reckon this decision quadrupled the length of time it took to build! However, she enjoyed building it and I think that for a five year old to have familiarality with Lego pieces is not a bad thing. The ship soon takes shape and looks good when finished. The game itself is quite simple but very playable as a family. The aim is to roll the dice (which you add bits to every turn which then alters the roll) and get the other players to reach the end of their plank before you do. A sharky death awaits the failures - in the form of grey traingular shaped pieces representing shark fins. Overall, a good fun game that passes the time on rainy days for parents needing to entertain their children.

Credit where it is due, while Lego are embracing video games, they are also doing their darnedest to keep traditional toys alive, and the concept of a game that your build was waiting to be invented. The game itself is simple enough for my five year old daughter and fun enough for her nine year old cousin. It only takes 10-15 minutes so is a good time filler. And in a similar vein it is in a small box and is priced at the spontaneous purchase level. There are other games in the series and I will be buying at least one more. A smart idea and well executed to keep it simple and fun. Recommended.

I don't know about other parents but I'm keen my kids play with the kind of toys that I enjoyed as a child. Lego is one of the most played with toys from my child hood, it spawned hundred of imaginary scenes and events but now Lego are taking it one step further and creating the scenarios to be played within. This is excellent for adults and children alike as it levels the imagination playing field and also allows us grown ups to dust off the cobwebs again. This game is easy to put together and easy enough to play, best about this is that you can play a simple race to the finish game with younger kids or get a little more tactical with older kids and block with the pieces you gain along the way, so for me the age range on this game can be widened to about 5 yrs old (small parts risk of course so be careful with your nippers!) All in all its a nice little Lego toy which will no doubt live out its gaming lifespan relatively quickly and the parts will end up absorbed into that huge tub of Lego we all had as kids. A decent price as well!

Like all the Lego games, Pirate Plank benefits from having two aspects - build & play. The pieces were quite small & subsequently fiddly for small hands but it does prove to be enjoyable to put together. The game rules were quite confusing at first but once we got started the game was great fun for not only myself & my friend but more importantly his six year old son.

In addition to the self-build nature of `Pirate Plank' as a model galleon this is also a game for up to 4 players - best with 4 as anything less limits competitive strategy for play. The product arrives nicely boxed as expected of LEGO kits, but on a smaller than normal scale - this applies to both individual components and the overall model. The rather large number of pieces and their small size undermines suitability for the very young and hence a quoted age range of `7 years plus' appears correct. Swallowing and choking are obvious hazards yet loss of pieces is more likely to be a problem - at which stage the components may be put with other LEGO items. Instructions for construction are easy to follow, and though fabrication may be fiddly it is possibly of greater interest for LEGO enthusiasts instead of playing the game. Play is surprisingly challenging largely due to the ability to add opponents' colours to the dice and so permit tactical aggression! Like many computer games the `Pirate Plank' is an elimination game, but it is nice to get away from flickering screens and beeping noises.

What a fantastic little lego game. It took only a few minutes to build but as a family of lego lovers it lasted ages to play. Even though it is only little I would recommend it to anyone even for younger children as it is easy to understand and also quick. Lots of fun at a great price.

Let's face it it's Lego so it is pretty much guaranteedto have somre playability. This is a nice little game and fairly compact. My son enjoyed the actual building of the game as it is just a little Lego kit. The game itself was less compelling. In my view there are both better games at this price point and better lego sets.
