5.0 out of 5 stars The best Christmas album - throw away the rest
I'm not a huge jazz fan and wasn't sure if I could listen to a whole album but this just the best Christmas CD. There aren't any 'slow' tracks, they are all upbeat, so perfect for the background music to a cool Christmas party, or easy listening. It's the right side of cheesy with big band club tracks like 'Cha Cha all the way' as well as funky tracks from Peggy Lee,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great
Liked the songs, liked very much the music..
Something different and to be honest, always cheers me up..
It was very hard to find a song I did not like.

And since I like that kind of music, believe me, I often find myself listening to that collection, days and day and days.....

I'm not a huge jazz fan and wasn't sure if I could listen to a whole album but this just the best Christmas CD. There aren't any 'slow' tracks, they are all upbeat, so perfect for the background music to a cool Christmas party, or easy listening. It's the right side of cheesy with big band club tracks like 'Cha Cha all the way' as well as funky tracks from Peggy Lee, Billy May and Ray Anthony among others, and a great band version of 'The Nutcracker Suite'. Every song classy, Christmassy and cool with a few you know and a lot you may not have heard of but will love. Am now looking to download a few more Ultra Lounge albums as this is a great mix - sit back with a cranberry & brandy cocktail, put another log on the fire and enjoy...

5.0 out of 5 stars Shake things up this Christmas, 9 Dec 2010

Christmas is not Christmas in my house until Billy May yells 'MUSH!!' over the wailing horns of his mambo version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Lots of class acts like Peggy Lee, Julie London, Nancy Wilson and Lou Rawls put this several notches about your usual Christmas cash-in collection.

You'll uncover forgotten gems like The Man With the Bag, What Are You Doing New Year's Eve and a full-throated Ring Those Christmas Bells.

You'll rediscover tired old tunes as well. Santa Claus comes to town to the strains of a Hammond organ. A full string orchestra makes Jingle Bells feel joyous again. The jazz version of Nutcracker Suite is a real cracker. And when was the last time you heard a song with a whistle solo?? Well, here's a whistled version of Baby It's Cold Outside.

One of my absolute favourite Christmas music collections. I've got a fair few dozen and this one is always at the top of the pile.

Generally very COOL mix of funky, jazzy, bossa-nova-ish, X-mas songs. Makes for a great excuse to jump around and shake your stuff - go on burn those mince pies!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun for all the family, 29 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Sick of the usual Christmas songs which assault the senses in sterile shopping malls up and down the land (Merry Christmas Everyone, I wish it could be Christmas every day etc)? Then this is just what you need. Christmas is probably the one time of year when you can get away with lounge music without seeming either ridiculously retro or a laughable musical anachronism. Yes, it's one of those 'so naff it's cool' things and as cheesy as a six-month-old Camembert, but that's the point.

It's got the right balance between vocal tracks (and by some good people too: Peggy Lee, Julie London, Nat King Cole - no slouches) and instrumentals. There are about three or four tracks which have rather too much of the 'mighty Wurlitzer' for my liking, and the less said about the Tchaikovsky the better, but otherwise you can't go far wrong if you want some fun Christmas music but can't stand Slade.

Just one oddity: Amazon's track listing above is spot on, but the back cover and liner notes miss off the last three tracks. I've no idea why.

Looked like this would be a cool jazzy christmas album, it was however a mixture of 1 or 2 reasonable tracks and the rest was rubbish . Don't be fooled by the cool looking retro cover and title.
