3.0 out of 5 stars Poor customer service
I have used Norton for years without problems, but thought I would try AVG. The seller provided an internet download copy not the cd as advertised, but they did explain this was because they have had problems with the cd version, and I could exchange it if I wanted. The problem I had was that the AVG software would not register despite multiple attempts. I emailed AVG...

This review is from: AVG Internet Security 9.0 (3 User, 2 Year) (CD-ROM)
I have used in the past over many years Norton, BullGuard, McAfee etc but AVG Internet Security, especially v9,is in a different league. It is easy to load, virtually automatic for setup, easy to use and does what it says on the tin. I use on three domestic computers including a laptop. Usefully, apart from on start-up, and scan, it does not appear to take any processing power and incoming emails are only delayed marginally whilst it checks them for viruses.
Upgrades are free and the on line support is good.
The "anti popup" software to block adware is much better than on previous versions although I also use Pareto Logic Anti Spyware which also removes adware and sits seamlessly with AVG 9.
Amazon are also selling at the moment for half the price you would pay on the AVG website!
PS: I use Windows XP Pro.

5.0 out of 5 stars LIGHT, FAST, SECURE - AND OLD SCHOOL HONEST, 31 Oct 2009

This review is from: AVG Internet Security 9.0 (3 User, 2 Year) (CD-ROM)
I am using AVG INTERNET SECURITY 9.0 for over a month now. But I never bought it. What I did buy was an older AVG security suite (v7.5), 2 years ago. Nevertheless, whenever a later version becomes available, the suite updates itself to the latest version -- FREE! It happened at least three times over these past years, with versions 8.0, 8.5 and recently 9.
You have to respect a company that does this! With AVG a 2 year license means you shall have the latest security suite for 2 years (and not just new database definitions). Can you imagine buying McAfee or Norton 2009 in October and in March been offered their later release, free?

As a security suite, AVG is light and reliable. It does not tax my system resources either idle or actively scanning, and one can trade speed for resources with a scalable slider. The interface is user friendly and intuitive. The default settings will protect the initiate user from confusing alerts and warnings. On the other hand, the experienced user can dive in and configure the suite to suit him best.

The only thing I did not like with v9.0 are the icons in the main interface, which I found bland and boring. But appearances are a very minor thing when it comes to security suites.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

As I say AVG works best for me !! I would also like to add that Amazon are second to none on customer service and delivery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Peasy Computer Protection., 28 Jan 2010
This review is from: AVG Internet Security 9.0 (3 User, 2 Year) (CD-ROM)
This is so simple. I've been using Mcafee until recently and so far, this surpasses it by a mile. Easy to install, easy to use and easy to upgrade. I've not had to use the online support yet, but I imagine it will be as slick as the rest of the product. No glitches with XP and no interference with anything installed. It says its compatible with windows 7... we'll see in a few weeks when the new computer arrives! Highly recommended. Oh and well done Amazon, excellent price and usual efficiency in delivering the product to my door.

The product did exactly what it said on the box at an unbeliveable price compared to a download from AVG's own web site. Software works a treat. Bargain. Need i say more.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
I started using the free version of AVG over a year ago, found it superb and then upgraded to the paid version of AVG Internet Security v8.5 last year which I found very reliable and easy to use. I recently bought a new netbook so need a new anti-virus package and AVG remains my first choice.

Internet Security 9 offers everything - full protection from viruses, identity scams, dodgy emails, hackers, spyware, worms, trojans, anti-rootkit protection, anti-spam and includes a firewall, link-scanner and an effective pop-up blocker in one package which runs seamlessly in the background.

It is very simple to load and configure - the user is simply asked to click the icon for the type of computer being used - ie PC connected via one network or portable laptop/netbook connecting via several networks and this forms the basis of the settings, although these can be changed or tweaked. It is then quick to register and downloads the latest updates. If there have been any updates to the program then the latest version will download so that you always have the most up-to-date program (a feature not offered by some other competing products, eg Norton).

The default settings can be used for running background scans or you can set your own schedules - either way it's easy and you can simply load it and forget about it while being reassured by the visible active icons that the program is working behind the scenes. The only settings you may need to adjust are those of the firewall to allow (or deny) it to run programs but one click and then it's set. Unlike some similar security packages, most notably Norton products, it doesn't clutter up system resources or noticeably slow down my PC or netbook at the default settings but even this can be tweaked to provide the best performance.

This package offers superb value for money and, best of all, not only does it provide full protection for 3 computers but it also includes updates for two years, not one, setting a new trend in virus protection products. I couldn't ask for more.

Highly recommended for any PC, laptop or netbook or all three.

AVG must be the most downloaded free anti-virus program in the world, and here you get the full paid version. Whenever there is a new version you are automatically able to get it without any hassle. I have had no problems putting this on a computer, but I have had on a previous version, and we did have problems on loading this onto one computer. With the ability to have three computers protected with one payment and product you can put the family on full protection. This product doesn't seem to slow down what I am doing when it is running a scan, although I used to have a very old computer and it did cause a slight delay if I was playing any games.

There is nothing to dislike in this product, you get anti-virus, identity protection, firewall, email scanner, anti-spyware etc in one package. It automatically downloads the latest updates and will automatically scan by itself. With the Link Scanner you will see if sites are ok to look at, although I have had occasions when it has told me it is all right to look at a site, only for there to be something malicious on it.

You could go and buy these items included on this program individually, trying to get the best on the market, but it would cost a fortune, with this one product you get the whole bundle giving you peace of mind. If you have any problems there is help on the company website, but if this doesn't help you then they are quick at responding and giving a solution. All in all this is a great product that gives you peace of mind, is easy to use and has very good technical support.

The problem I had was that the AVG software would not register despite multiple attempts. I emailed AVG advising them of the problem, but after a couple of days still had no reply, so I phoned their customer help line - which is a higher rate call, and was told I would be sent a new product number by email, I didn't get the email, but the next time I logged on the product finally registered. I did eventually get a reply to my original emails 9 days later. The software appears to be working ok now, but I think will go back to back to Norton next time.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
Avg internet security.

This software comes with firewall, antivirus , anti-spy ware, identity protection, websheild and anti-phishing.

One of the nice things about this package is that its for 3 computers and for 2 years, much longer than the usual bunch of software.

I have installed this on both windows xp and windows 7, no problems with either in terms of installation.

At least it all looks simple enough, when you option AVG there are columns of features (like anti-virus) etc and it says whether everything is working or not.
In terms of appearance it isn't as simple as Norton's.

During my first day I ran into a problem, there was no alert (no pop up at least), but the firewall became disabled. Compared to Norton's where there is a FIX button, this AVG doesn't have that feature. It just says "firewall not available" and there is no option to switch it back one or restart it etc. No fix it solution basically! So you're forced to restart your computer to solve this issue.

Besides its not so colourful appearance it does the job, however since Norton's is cheaper, I cant see any real advantage, besides the 2 year licence, which will save you a bundle when you add up the prices of the competition.

Also you don't really get those nice monthly reports, you do have a very old school log that simply lists all the activities that have been going on.

Its light on your computer too, you wont notice it running, at least I haven't and that includes when its running a anti-virus system check.

Overall its good, but could do with a facelift, but at the price and how well it works in the background, I guess its something I can live with.
