I loved the catchy but sinister quality of "Boggis, Bunce and Bean" in the film and the finger-clicking violence of the Bean Security rat's theme is pure Morricone-Breaking Bad and, therefore, cider-flavoured crystal meth for the ears. The smart film scores these days are - often too knowingly - clever at resurrecting old songs and presenting them with some neat original composition (thanks for that Quentin, you cuss....) but this OST manages to be quirky, old-fashioned and yet as smart as new paint. Alexandre Desplat's scoring neatly captures the bucolic menace of Roald Dahl's best stuff but also sounds like he was responding to a mate's drunken bet to slip in a range of odd references ("Le Grand Choral" is pure "Brideshead Revisited" - the ITV series).

More importantly, however, it's chockful of earworms that last all day and conjure up Foxy's smug grin, Mrs Fox's festival-chick dancing and - of course - those mean ol' cussin' farmers - cuss them. That's more than enough for me and this particular soundtrack has found a special place in our cynical, movie tie-in hardened hearts so here's a toast to all involved.....
