3.0 out of 5 stars not so extreme but good all the same

This Pay Per View is absolutely phenomenal; which is full of blood, excitement and adrenaline rush.

1. Kofi Kingston (C) vs Matt Hardy vs William Regal vs MVP - Fatal Four Way Match for the WWE United States Championship

This was an impressive opener for the show. The bout was full of excitement throughout, all competitors performed to their best and wasn't predictable at all; which is a good point.

4/5

2. Chris Jericho vs Rey Mysterio (C) - No Holds Barred Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

This was the era when the Intercontinental Championship actually mattered. The match was great from start to finish. The ending is slightly predictable, but exciting and not tiring to watch either.

4.5/5

3. Umaga vs CM Punk - Samoan Strap Match

Unfortunately this was the final pay per view match for the Samoan Bulldozer, before he got himself killed for eating too much s***e and giving himself a heart attack. Anyway onto the bout, this was a very good match between the two. Impressive moves performed, but this wasn't the best match of the night.

3.5/5

4. Christian (C) vs Jack Swagger vs Tommy Dreamer - Triple Threat Hardcore Rules Match for the ECW Championship

This was a very exciting bout, with a wide of extreme weapons used throughout the time the match was commenced. Nothing compared to the old ECW days, but this was an extremely good match to be entertained by.

5/5

5. Santina Marella vs Vickie Guerrero - Hog Pen Match

This match wasn't really extreme at all, but was entertaining for the younger generation.....
Moving on, this came together from Wrestlemania 25' Queen Of WM battle royal, and was a entertaining match throughout.
However it was predictable regarding a minor interference from a certain guerrero family member.

3/5

6. Batista vs Randy Orton (C) - Steel Cage Match for the WWE Championship

Both competitors performed phenomenally well throughout. Which consisted of a range of various moves which was exciting throughout. Good Match in an overall perspective.

4/5

7. John Cena vs Big Show - Submission Match

This was a predictable John Cena bout, but was okay overall.

3.5/5

8. Jeff Hardy vs Edge (C) - Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship

I was looking forward to the main event match, and was worth the wait. Full of excitement and hardcore moves used throughout. Awesome match to finish the night.
However their was a surprise at the end, but you will to buy it to see what happens ;)

5/5

Hope you find the review useful :)

Extreme Rules is getting better and better! I love Extreme Rules because of all the match types! In this one there's the likes of Ladder matches, Samoan Strap, Steel Cage, Submission etc. This DVD is unmissable! The ladder match is perhaps the best ladder match i have seen..with a surprise at the end!

I would give this a 10/10 Must Have!

4.0 out of 5 stars CM Punk cashes in, 1 Nov 2010

This review is from: WWE - Extreme Rules 2009 [DVD] (DVD)
WWE Extreme Rules 2009 was a mixture of good and bad, where there were some matches that were good and some matches that weren't the full ticket.

Match of the night had to be Jeff Hardy vs Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship in perhaps one of the best ladder matches in WWE's history. Both Jeff Hardy and Edge are familiar on how to use a ladder when it comes to having a match that involves the use of a ladder. The ending to this match was a shock when CM Punk decided to cash in his money in the bank on a newly crowned World Heavyweight Champion by the name of Jeff Hardy who could not believe that Punk would ruin his moment of glory and we ended up with yet again a new World Heavyweight Champion by the name of CM Punk. *****

The least favourite match had to be the steel cage match between Batista and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. It was good to see these two face off once more after their previous encounter at Judgement Day didn't finish off this intense rivalry. The usage of the steel cage was barely touched but we did have some good in ring action between two former Evolution team mates. It was all bound for glory when Batista walked out of the steel cage as the new WWE champion. ***

Other matches I liked
1. CM Punk vs Umaga (Strap Match) ****
2. John Cena vs Big Show (Submission Match) ***
3. Chris Jericho vs Rey Mysterio (No Holds Barred Match) ***

Overall I wouldn't regard this as the best Extreme Rules PPV that the WWE has produced, but it did deliver some good matches which included the main event, where we saw two new world champions crowned with the second superstar known as CM Punk who had one heck of a good night of winning a brutal strap match against Umaga, to ending the night as the new World Heavyweight Champion.

3.0 out of 5 stars not so extreme but good all the same, 22 Dec 2009

extreme rules is an extreme event in the pg rated era that wwe has enforced these days,i dont mind the pg era to be fair but this event was never going to be extreme in the literal sense but if the matches were filled with quality then the lack of blood and mayhem would soon be forgotten.
The event opened with a fatal four way for the united states championship as the champ kofi went up against mvp, william regal and matt hardy. This match was pretty forgettable to be fair, nothing brilliant in it but it warmed the crowd up and that is what is intended in any opening match really.
The intercontiental championship was defended in a no holds barred match between the champ rey mysterio and the challenger chris jericho, this match wasnt as good as their classic at the bash but it was a fine match nonetheless,it was fought at a dangerous pace and there were moves, counters and an all round sense of brilliance throughout.
a samoan strap match was up next as cm punk went up against umaga who sadly passed away recently, umaga wasnt long back in the wwe before this match and it wasnt long before he was released after this but it was a decent match and punk showed strength that sometimes fans dont consider he actually has.
A triple threat hardcore match for the ECW championship was contested next as the champ christian went up against tommy dreamer and jackie swagger, this match was poor if im honest, failing to ever look anything other than dull, the winner, yuck.
A handicap hog pen match for the title of miss wrestlemania was up next as santina went up against vickie and chavo, this match was all about the laughs and i guess it raised a smile of two ,so thats all i need say here.
A steel cage match between the wwe champ randy orton and batista was up next, the match lasted 7 minutes due to a legimate injury suffered by david batista if i aint mistaken, these things happen but i was enjoying it up to that point.
A submission match between cena and the big show was up next, people arent always fans of submission matches and much was made of the fact that cena couldnt make show tap as he couldnt reach all of his moves, but in the end he could, did his arms get longer, anyway, this was a smash mouth match but cena worked hard and show put in some good offence that wasnt clumsy, show was a bit fitter at this point so his matches didnt always look laboured,a decent match if im very honest.
A ladder match for the world heavyweight championship was up next and was designed to be our final match of the night, the champ edge went up against jeff hardy, two men with history and a hate hate relationship as blood is thicker than water, anyway, this match was an instant classic, some stunning moves featured and i really implore people to see this match, and when it was over we had an unscheduled match and what an outcome,a surefire talking point of the year.
This event was pretty good when i reflect back and deserves three stars.
