WHEN I WAS I CHILD, ANDY WILLIAMS SOUNDED CONSTANTLY IN MY HOUSE TOGETHER WITH OTHER GREATS OF THESE TIMES LIKE FRANK SINATRA, MATT MONROE, ETC. IT WAS A LONG TIME AGO.WHEN I WAS A CHILD BUT EVEN SO, NOW I'VE GROW AND ANDY STILL SOUNDS ME A GREAT VOICE AND IT'S VERY EMOTIONALLY TO HEAR AGAIN THIS WONDERFUL AND ELEGANCE SONGS. TOP 500 REVIEWERon 13 November 2009
In the UK to promote his auto-biography (MOON RIVER AND ME - Orion Press) and play sell-out concerts at the Royal Albert Hall and provincial venues, this related compilation aims for and achieves its popular appeal by including Andy's celebrated hits. However, digging deeper into his impressive recording catalogue, there's also SOLITAIRE, NEVER SAY GOODBYE, HOME LOVIN' MAN, THE LOOK OF LOVE and that great tease, MACARTHUR PARK amongst the two dozen choices, with IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR providing another selling angle for the upcoming festive season. However, although the artwork is identical, Andy's brand-name status has been marketed in specific ways with this UK version differing from the US release and the latter only duplicating nine songs amongst its eighteen tracks so there's a choice to be made.

Andy Williams is a voice from my past going back as far as the mid 60's! I had several LP's of his that have been enjoyed over the years and as I am in the process of replacing LP's with CD's, Andy Williams had to be included.
"The Very Best of Andy Williams" is just that. An excellent collection of his most popular songs. Songs that you will remember and still enjoy. The velvet voice of Andy Williams is a definate easy listening choice and if you only buy 1 of his CD's then this one is the best to choose for an all round selection of his music.

A great collection of his classic hits. My favourites are 'Happy Heart', 'Homecoming Man' & the theme from 'Love Story'. Amazing voice - how he manages to hit the high notes in 'Can't Help Falling In Love' I don't know. It's still playing in my car after a month.

I bought this cd because my Mum used to listen to Andy Williams when I was little so I remember all the songs with fond memories of her.
However, I was disappointed that it did not include speak softly love(think that's the title) as I thought it was one of his big hits, otherwise it's good.

Shamefully, I was comparatively ignorant of most of Andy Williams' musical back catalogue when I sent for this quite wonderful collection. I'd heard of perhaps half a dozen of these 24 songs before and, indeed, I only bought the CD in the first place so I could get my hands on 'Music To Watch Girls By' at very short notice, thanks to the 'Auto-Rip' facility that is included in the price of it. I don't know what it was that sent me off in search of it in the first place, but it's a song you can never tire of listening to at incredibly loud volume. Although, having said that, my neighbours might very well disagree with me on that one.

I reckon they're just jealous of me though. Not just because I now have these 24 fabulous songs in my possession but, obviously, because of how 'cool' I look these days. You just can't help looking cool when you're seen in the company of someone like Andy Williams. The man sings magnificently and, as the eight black and white photos of him in the sleeve notes confirm, he was pretty damn handsome too. There's one of him relaxing on his couch that I am particularly impressed by.

Hm... Andy Williams would appear to be the latest in a rather alarmingly long line of my 'man crushes' then.

By golly though, is it any wonder?!

I'll tell you something else as well... if you ever want to seduce an ex-wife, I can personally recommend this disc as suitable background music for the task. I'm not suggesting seducing my own ex-wife was a very sensible course of action by any means (because it wasn't, it really wasn't); I mention it merely by way of an illustration of the incredible power of Andy Williams' singing.

I wasn't even trying to seduce her either. It was Andy... I simply couldn't stop him. A singing voice that could make a woman who loathes and detests me (and who had only popped round that evening in the first place in order to remind me just how much she loathed and detested me) completely forget about the fact that EastEnders was just about to start was impressive enough; a singing voice that made that same woman then want to spend the night with me (well, with Andy really... looking back on it I think I was something of a 'Buy One, Get One Free' sort of a booby prize actually) was, quite simply, miraculous.

'MacArthur Park' was the ultimate test of Andy's powers, dealing as it does with a romantic break up. Would my former wife escape from his spell and remember all the reasons why our relationship went down the loo in the first place? Not a bit of it. The woman was mesmerised by Andy, a situation which made the task of being subsequently naked in her presence an awful lot less intimidating than it would otherwise have been, I can tell you.

I should think even I could sing 'MacArthur Park' with more identifiable musical notes than Richard Harris was able to muster, but it's amazing how superb that song sounds in the hands of a skilled professional like Andy. If I could sing like him, I would be irresistible to women in my own right, rather than having to bask in his reflected glory. But that's fine. He was so cool that I'm sure he wouldn't have minded taking pity on a romantically inadequate wretch like me.

This is an essential disc for anyone with amorous inclinations, most especially those of us who would otherwise face something of an uphill struggle in that department.

A word of warning though: having this man and his genius help you with your love life is a full-time job. Once you get Andy on the case, you've got to keep using him. You must make sure to have this music to hand at all times. Otherwise, you risk having your partner coming to her senses and passionately questioning (in a collection of rather blue-tinted words of no more than four letters) what she was ever doing there with you in the first place.

No? Oh well, that must just be me then.

OK, so I am a 40 something brought up on punk and rock that bought this for the wife at Christmas, why? Well basically you can't keep a good song down. This was played ad infinitum over our Christmas and became a highlight. There are a couple of duds but eventually you'll all be singing along. Our 14 year old who is into drum n bass was heard humming "music to watch girls by" the other day. A classic!
