Master arranger and bandleader, Mulatu Astatke is one of the all-time greats of Ethiopian music and the creator of his own original music form, Ethio jazz. He is a true pioneer of African music and studied in the UK in Wales and at Trinity College Of Music in London, cutting his teeth on the buoyant London jazz scene of the early `60s. He became the first African student to attend Harvard and he lived and recorded in New York.
This album is truly the perfect way to introduce yourself to this man's incredible style of music. It spans his whole career and contains some absolute gems. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in Ethio-Jazz or the world music scene, and also to those who already have a great love for it. You will not be disappointed.

...and listening now.
this is absolutley marvellous. the first of many happy hours listening to this. cheered me right up and i wasn't even miserable.
five stars for sure. inventive, playful, glorious in every way.
i buy a lot of stuff on a whim, just to see what it sounds like, and i am not one for reviewing, but this is an exception.

I wasn't to sure about buying this,Its the first CD Iv'e bought by a Ethiopian artist but I must admit Iv'e stumbled on a great offering of an African, American and latin jazz melting pot. My favourite track has to be Mulatu, worth it for this track alone.
