5.0 out of 5 stars Another fun read but with a slightly more serious story, 30 Jun. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As usual for this series this was fun, hot and amusing. What I really liked about it, however, was the inclusion of the problems in adopting an older child. Cam, the war vet, wants Dom, but he doesn't think she can handle his dominant tendencies. She knows she can, but she doesn't want a 'serious' relationship. Dom helps Cam back to his old, sexy dominant self (yummmmmm), and on the way he falls in love with her. Meanwhile, her good friend is killed in a road accident leaving her little boy an orphan. Dom wants to adopt him, but is considered a 'flight risk' - ie she hasn't stayed anywhere long, so Cam proposes as a way of enabling her to keep the boy. The beginnings of their life together is hard, as the little boy is awkward, difficult and generally a bit of a pain (well, he would be, he's just lost his mother!). Dom has a secret which eventually she feels forced to tell Cam, he accepts her for all that she is (and isn't), and they work out the relationship with the child. All great.
Great romance, hot sex and some good family stuff in there too. Works for me!

Cameron is a complicated characters. In the book they thought he's was around or standoffish because he was always away but when he's in a serious situation and he's reported as missing in action but finally found only for his family to be told that his leg has had to be amputated he's very bitter and understandably very upset he pushes his whole family away.
He slowly starts to make a life for himself and gets a job as a county sheriff and redevelops bore's nest. He also once or sometimes twice a day goes to Dewey's for coffee and Domini fix.
Domini has be long in sundance and from the first time she met Cam she fell hard, problem is Cameron has dark sexual needs and feel sweet shy Domini wouldn't be able to cope with it, he also thinks he's a "cripple" and Domini shouldn't have to deal with his issue with being a injured war hero.
What Cameron doesn't realise is Domini might be shy and sweet but also has a steel back bone and a lot of Russian swear words saved up.
Love how the family is made closer and issues between brothers/mothers are finally sorted which has been brewing for quite a few books.
Great story and HEA. Looking forward to Keely book.

I love this whole series but this story is one of my favourites. Cam and Domi have there own handfuls - physical and emotionally not sexual!! The MCKay family sure is interesting.

Some of these stories are better than others IMHO, but this one has a real feel-good factor. Domini was a really strong character, just the sort of partner that Cam needed and wanted. I'm so glad that Anton was able to find 'parents' who loved him in the end and everything was going to be OK. Not sure whether or not I'm looking forward to Keely's story, but she does seem to have become 'less of a super-bitch' in the more recent books - perhaps having other females to bond with in the McKay family is working it's magic!!

This is one of the better rough riders series. It's about cam the wounded soldier and how he becomes involved with Domini the equally wounded chef. It has great character build up and steamy scenes. It definitely worth the read.

Wounded meets wounded, but with a twist. Cam & Domini have some ups and downs but the road to your soulmate is never easy.
