5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant & Easy to Use
I highly recommend buying this product. If you've just purchased a new PC with Windows 7 installed and need to transfer lots of data from an old PC (I had to transfer 40gb of music and photos), then this is the product for you. I was initially a little sceptical about spending money on a cable I might only use a few times. But it's so easy to use - you load a CD...

A data cable that attachs from your old pc to your new one and allows you to migrate all your files and settings from XP to W7, what a great idea. That's what I thought and so I bought one. Installation of the software on my old pc was easy and off it went, for several hours until it hung and my old pc froze up. I appreciate that could be a failure on the pc's part but...

I highly recommend buying this product. If you've just purchased a new PC with Windows 7 installed and need to transfer lots of data from an old PC (I had to transfer 40gb of music and photos), then this is the product for you. I was initially a little sceptical about spending money on a cable I might only use a few times. But it's so easy to use - you load a CD installation disk onto your old computer, connect the cable and follow the simple instructions. It's so much better and easier compared with having to burn lots of DVDs and manually transferring the data.

This does exactly what it is supposed to, file transfer from XP to Windows 7,one laptop to another. The instructions are clear and not written by a geek. The whole process takes about an hour.

Just recently purchased a new laptop. Read about this item so decided to try it to save transferring files seperately.
Absolutely simple to use, simple instructions, and everything transferred in about 15 minutes !
Can definitely recommend it.

Installation of the software on my old pc was easy and off it went, for several hours until it hung and my old pc froze up. I appreciate that could be a failure on the pc's part but when I checked afterwards I found the software had left several directories untouched including over 2000 photos. As I said, it could have been the old pc's fault but the software seemed to have no way to tell me what had been transferred and what hadn't. I ended up using my son's portable hard drive and manually transferring the files. To its credit however it did transfer my iTunes library and playlists although it left some music behind. With more and more people storing their music libraries on their pcs nowadays this could be its biggest selling point.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast and Easy, 31 Dec 2010
This review is from: Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows 7 (Electronics)
I found it really easy to transfer all my files over to my new computer -- much easier than doing it manually with memory sticks or even through my external hard drive.

One strange thing is that it automatically wanted to transfer ALL my old windows settings to the new computer. But I certainly didn't want all the 5 years of accumulated garbage transferred willy-nilly. If I'd just clicked 'yes' to the default settings that would have happened.

You have to look, but the program actually does let you choose exactly what you want to transfer over - data as well as windows defaults and settings, so that you can truly start anew. And you can see exactly how many Gbs or Mbs are being transferred. It took a lot longer than I thought it would, but it was essentially painless and hassle-free.

4.0 out of 5 stars It Does What It Says On The Tin, 24 Feb 2011

Having been forced to buy a new laptop (a Dell) because my old Hewlett Packard one failed shortly after the guarantee expired - funny, huh? - I then had to face the nightmare of migrating all my old software and files to the new one.

As Microsoft have failed to find a way to make that easy, particularly for the non technically minded, it was a complete nightmare.

This product, which ought not to be needed if Microsoft had a genuine commitment to supporting its customers, a lack shared by the increasingly hated Google empire by the way, did exactly what it said it would.

I was, therefore, able to transfer all my old files, which is a lot of data, close to 5GB, successfully, so I must give this product a thumbs up!

It certainly lives up to its name. Very easy to use and does the job. Sadly the first cable supplied was not Belkin and failed to operate. This was swiftly remedied, but did cause a delay.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Transfer, 18 Dec 2010
This review is from: Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows 7 (Electronics)
This product didn't work for me. I was trying to transfer my data from a Windows Vista PC to my new Windows 7 PC. Set everything in motion as per the instructions, hours went by but the data was only partially transfered. I managed to move all my data using my wireless network, it took hours but worked very well. I thought a wired transfer would be more secure which is why I bought the cable but this was not the case.

This cable did 'what it said on the tin' - once I had re-installed the Programmes, when I bouight a new computer (XP to Windows 7), the data transfer went without a hitch . To instal ,Windows Easy Xfer'on the old computer, and connect both by the special USB cable could not have been easier. Just sit back and let it happen

2.0 out of 5 stars Should be called document transfer device, 6 Feb 2011
This review is from: Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows 7 (Electronics)
This product transfers only documents (no programs) from your old computer to your new one. It does this well, but I have two major gripes:

1) It should be called a DOCUMENT&PHOTO transfer cable, because the fact that you can't move files defeats half the purpose.
2) It doesn't let you pick and choose what to transfer -- it just transfers everything.

Takes about 3 hours for 50GB, which isn't bad.
