technically average, needs high power PC, lo quality, poor support & info,

I would not have it even if it was free, and I was a long term user.1. Its a resource hog, it takes a long time for its own control panel to start up let alone do anything. 2. You have little control over it - if you switch off one of the many components (because you need to) they may not disable properly and it will then constantly keep warning you that you are not protected. Then you also have to be careful what you click because it will re-enable everything. 3. The suites include lots of unnecessary programs - which would be OK if, once you install one and find that it interferes with something you want to do, you can disable it completely or un-install it (without having to uninstall the whole suite). A few of the components slow down your system, interfere with what you want to do, add little to your protection, or you can get much better ones for free. 4. System requirements stated on their website are misleading (256MB RAM? I don't think so!). I have WinXP system, had 512RAM, McAfee was resource hog but in Oct09 after an auto-update from McAfee, it started to consume 75% more RAM - made system very slow! No warning. Here you are user; we've decided you should upgrade your system, now! They say you can install it on Win2000 too - only after three re-installs and about six microsoft component installs they don't warn you about - another whole day wasted, thanks McAfee. 5. Although their support system is now technically good, I have hardly ever been able to find the info I needed, and my one support experience was bad (not just poor). Also, expect subscription renewal emails with product costs much higher than you can buy elsewhere (even with their discount). They've wasted a lot of my life with their poor software quality and poor support & info. Check various forums and see the unhappy users (although there are unhappy users of all the major suites, McAfee are currently the worst of a bad bunch IMHO).

Misleading product description,

This review is from: McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2010 - 1 User (DVD-ROM)
The system requirement (listed on this website) include: Microsoft Windows 2000 (32-bit) with Service Pack 4 (SP4) or higherBoth the system requirement on the back of the box, and the 'Quick Start Guide' inside, include Windows 2000. However, running the installation ends very shortly to a box stating: Unable to continue ... Your version of Windows is out of date. .... Since My version of Windows 2000 Pro is completely up to date with all the latest updates from Microsoft, I can only infer that this box refers to Windows 2000 itself, in contradiction to product description. I only wanted the anti-virus, not the limited firewall coming with it, and had taken care to remove the 2 unwanted options at installation, so that ONLY the anti-virus would be installed. However it turns out that their installer will also refuse to work if it finds any from a list of others security software (not just other anti-viruses, which is normal, but a list of anti-spywares and firewalls, which is not). A full product description here should include that list. McAfee's technical support did not want look at the problem before I first uninstalled my tested and trusted firewall, which was not an acceptable option. In my case Zone Alarm Pro, which I have been using for about 5 years and is really one of the best around.

Never again!,
This review is from: McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2010 - 1 User (DVD-ROM)
This software is buggy, routinely reporting that it is not up to date, that automatic updates are not enabled, when in fact they are. It also cries 'Wolf!' quite a lot, saying the machine hasn't been scanned recently and is vulnerable, when in fact it has been scanned. Etc..Add to that McAfee's nagging to renew the subscription, starting with an e-mail months before renewal was due; and, now that it's imminent, a red pestering message several times a day (each time the machine is booted).... I loathe being importuned, and it is precisely the wrong way to keep me as a customer. I shall be uninstalling the software instead, and looking at the competition.

Had checked around various sites for a product which would suit my needs after my own virus protection had expired. I wanted security at a reasonable price and I believe that I have succeeded and to date have had no problems with my purchase. The delivery of the item was very satisfactory and without incident.

disappointing only 1-yr license,

So far so good, the program is easy to install. However it is quite disappointing that this is only a 1-yr license. All other software mention that the license is for 1-year use. this software has no mention whatsoever that is is only valid for 1-year so that is quite misleading. The software is running fine so far so ...

I have been a mcafee user for many years and it is the companies attitude that gets reflected in their product that is getting a bigger and bigger problem. It wants to dictate to you, not what you want. Examples are: I bought a copy directly once, only to find my credit card details kept and Auto payment turned on. None of my permission was asked. I now find with this latest product; a program that I have used for 6 years and allowed to run by Mcafee deleted from my computer and declared a Trojan.

I would highly recommend this package as it is about a third of the price and is very easy and speedy to install. It does everything I need it to.
