2.0 out of 5 stars Missed opportunity
This compilation (the THIRD to carry the name "All Together Now: The Very Best of the Farm" and the FIFTH Farm best-of overall) could have been great, but unfortunately it was handled poorly.

To start with, the tracklisting is wrong and misleading. "Rain" does not appear on Disc 2, as stated on the record label's web site.

More egregiously, the CD packaging states that you get "Love See No Colour (Single Version)" on Disc 1 and "Love See No Colour (Album Version)" on Disc 2. However, both CDs contain the Single Version... in other words, YOU'RE PAYING FOR THE SAME SONG TWICE!!!

Also, despite being highlighted several times in the liner notes, the Farm's third album, "Hullabaloo," is not represented on this collection. The only Farm collection to include tracks from Hullabaloo is 1998's "Best of the Farm" on Essential Records.

Most critics dismiss The Farm as bargain-bin fodder, but for three years or so in the early to mid 90s they made some great tunes. They had a unique sound (not just "Madchester") and most of their remixes are excellent.

The Farm only put out three records and it's silly that there are now FIVE "best of" compilations circulating. This latest offering could have been an opportunity to let the band rest in peace. There are some appealing tracks here, including a previously unreleased tune "Tumbling Down" and unreleased mixes of "Good Morning Sinners" and "Mind." As it stands, though, this budget release was obviously thrown together haphazardly and therefore a true career-spanning overview of the Farm's music remains to be found.

The first hit borrowed the name of a Beatles song and was actually a Christmas song as it was about the events of December 1914 when British soldiers crossed the line to meet the Germans and have a drink with them-a pretty remarkable thing in itself to have happenned at the start of World War 1
Other hits followed like their cover of I'm not your stepping stone-with Groovy Train the first American hit.
What I like about this CD is the number of songs which are soundalikes of those 3 hits as it ties in with my love of cover versions, answer songs.
This as Britpop or Madchester or Baggy is the real deal.Like bubblegum its instant music but what I don't like about it-apart from the last tracks on both CDs which I disabled straight away-is the lack of info regarding who played on what.Like the string section and the girl voices on the cover of the Human League's Don't You Want Me.
The definitive Farm is still yet to be issued

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Compilation Album, 12 July 2014

This is just a simple review stating how impressed I am with this 'best of' collection by The Farm. In the last few years I have been buying a lot of records of many types of music and I have no doubts in comparison that this is a very fine compilation album. Lots of good songs on both discs and as an added bonus even the re-mixes are well worth a listen. My favourite track is 'Mind' and the official You Tube video of this song is well worth viewing. The CD cover and booklet are also bright and attractive which I always appreciate because it all makes for a better quality all round package. So few reviews must surely indicate poor sales which is a real shame because I believe there is a very good chance that most people who would buy this record would agree with my opinion that this double album is a real treat.
