5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
I bought the first Helicopter Girl album four years ago after it received such amazing press and a Mercury Prize nomination. I still play it occasionally but since I got this new one I haven't been able to take it off!
If ever you wanted an example of what happens when you take your time and let the artist develop, then this is it.

Every single track is absolutely fantastic. There's trip-hop beats, hints of latin, truly unique and great vocals, and even a dash of rock guitar thrown in. Plus a cover of Tim Buckley's sublime Blue Melody which is to die for.
I've been hearing the single on Radio 2 for weeks but I'm so glad I waited for the album.
This is sure to feature in many people's albums of the year.
Buy it.

Excellent set of eclectic songs, unlike mainstream music commonly heard today. Most listeners will not be disappointed.

Helicopter Girl's 2nd album is even better than the first. Pure aural pleasure. If you like Bjork, Keli Ali, or Portishead this is well worth checking out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blissed out aural beauty...., 2 July 2004
This review is from: Voodoo Chic (Audio CD)
Remembered the raves about HG in 2000, but was in a different place to care back then. Enraptured by 'Angel City' song and vid, and extra track 'Cry mississippi' from first album.
Love, love, love, love "Voodoo Chic". It's dark and sinister and ambient and chilled all at once. HG drawls through her stream of consiousness lyrics like Eartha Kitt on HRT. Marvellous!
My only gripe is that the first single actually doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the album, but programming the cd to shove it at then works a treat...

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall Pleasing But Slightly Derivitive, 28 Aug. 2004

'Flesh & Blood' is now among my top 2004 tracks. 'Her Lucille' and 'Umbrellas in The Rain' are also great. In my opinion these are the best tracks on the album. Think: Morcheeba (at their best), with a splash of Moloko and a hint of Tom Waits/Elvis Costello (in female form).
'Jakarta Flatline', 'Serious Tapestry', 'This Far Out' and 'Soul Torture' are worthy of note and growing on me.
The rest of the album might be from any halfway decent Morcheeba follower. Could do better!

5.0 out of 5 stars chilled out chic, 25 Jun. 2004
This review is from: Voodoo Chic (Audio CD)
You can imagine drinking a cocktail in a trendy bar and hearing this album and thinking "i wonder what the music is thats playing?"
This album is so smooth its like bathing in silk I bought it on the basis of the single "angel city" but was pleasently surprised that the album has more depth than this alone, beautiful melodies and instrumental arrangements surround the chocolate voice of jackie joyce...
Buy this album there is no way you could regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating haunting melodies of fate, 8 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Voodoo Chic (Audio CD)
I love this album ever since it was given to me in 2005, bring back some memories every time I listen to the songs; out of this world, philosophical, captivating haunting melodies & lyrics of fate and soul, music from and to the depth of subconscious, listen to it and you will be taken on a journey.

Why this Artist wasn't more well known is a mystery to me and a travesty.
Her voice and the sophistication of the music and song writing makes this a superlative album.
