great performance and great disappointment
on 2 November 2010
I will never again buy a BD on a pre-order!
There are 2 aspects to a ballet recording - the ballet and the recording.
I would rate the ballet 6 stars - the performance is great, the choreography sublime and the scenography - wonderful. An extra bonus was to see Agnes Letestu as a young, not quite so perfect and mature artist - fresh and entrancing.
And yet the longer I watched it, the more angry, disappointed and cheated I felt.
Ok, it may not affect you if you are already suffering from a catharact on both eyes or watch this on a small screen, preferably old type and you are of partial hearing.
But I have recently upgraded to a proper home cinema and bought this disc with intention to enhance my collection with new high definition experiences.
But this recording is not in HD, it's not even in PAL, it's in this appalling American system of NTSC. Worse, it's not Dolby, it's just simple stereo.
During entire play I fought with tendency to rub my eyes to remove the mist from the picture - it's so unclear (after you've seen some proper HD recordings!)
Well, the camera man didn't do the best job either. He seemed to never get focus right and in one moment he moved the objective from a soloist final movements to show ankles of the rest of dancers.
So - the recording gets only 1 star, hence as total - 3 stars.
I am still angry for letting myself to be misled. I believed that ordering a blue-ray disc means ordering a high definition recording.
