A solid camera, but watch the battery cover,

This review is from: Fujifilm FinePix J30 Digital Camera - Silver (12MP, 3x Zoom) 2.7 inch LCD (Electronics)
I bought this after we had purchased several for the school, and I'd seen how easy to use they were and what good picture quality they had. The set up is easy, and the general functions are quick to navigate around. I took some lovely snow pictures this week, and it shoots excellent quality video. My one concern is that the battery cover comes undone far too easily, as it tends to be where you put your right thumb while taking a picture. Apart from that, a good camera.

Bought this for a 6 year old's Christmas as the reviews for childrens'digital cameras were all so dire.
It's great, small, light, and so simple that even a (bright!)six year old can take to it within minutes. We all know what to expect, but I can't understand why they never provide adequate memory - at 12megapixels it used up all the memory with first 3 pictures! So if you buy it, remember to get a memory chip too. Trivial, but the silver version looks a wee bit flimsy - the the black one.

Got one of these for xmas after a long time waiting to upgrade my ancient but still excellent Finepix 2600z (2MP). I wasn't really interested in another brand as I've been so happy with my old camera for a number of years, bulky though it is/was.
This camera is a great size, slim and small and fits in the hand nicely as well as slipping into a pocket easily. The LCD screen however is lovely and large and easy to see in almost any light. There's no viewfinder like on my old camera but with a screen like this it's certainly not needed. Happily I got a 4GB memory card with it as the internal memory won't hold more than a few photos. Most importantly it takes beautiful pictures; crisp, clear and very high quality, even on lower settings. There are loads of settings and options on the camera depending on where you're taking photos and what the subject is. Despite that it's really easy to use and very intuitive. Although I probably won't use many of the settings they're simple to find if I do. I pretty much figured most of it out very quickly without even consulting the manual. Ah yes, the manual. Some people of course never bother reading the manual. I do and was a bit miffed that it was included only on a cd, meaning I had to use my computer to read it. Not helpful if you happen to be away from home and without computer access. On the plus side though the manual is very clearly written and easy to follow should you need it. Kind of hard to take it with you when you're out for the day and want to check how to take that particular shot. Maybe I'm being pedantic though because as I said the camera is so easy, you really shouldn't need to consult the manual once you've read it through once. Now the big let down: the software. I installed it, I tried it, I tried it again, and again... and finally uninstalled it, put the disc in the empty box and chucked it out. It's rubbish. The software I had with my old Fuji Finepix was brilliant. I could choose to save my pics with the DSCF00001 type filename OR named by date & time (2009_1225_135402AA) which I find more useful. It let me see a full screen of images so I could choose which I wanted, which I didn't and I could delete, rotate, save etc the pics I wanted before saving to my PC. The NEW version has no choice of how to name your files and only seems to display 4-5 pics at once before you save them to PC, no folder or album view. It does have some nice editing options but I have far better image processing software on my PC anyway (Photoshop, ACDSEE, Adobe Bridge, Irfanview, Faststone etc). All the things I liked about the old software has been left off this version. That wouldn't be so bad if the new version actually did what it was supposed to do but it's not only cumbersome and awkward but very, very unresponsive and it crashed several times while I was trying to find options that I was convinced I must be overlooking, but are simply not available. The old version of the software won't recognise the new camera. Every one of the other Imaging softwares I mentioned above do a far better job of importing, sorting, saving, naming, editing and displaying your photos better than this pathetic excuse for software. Conclusion: The camera is excellent, it'd be hard to get anything better anywhere near this price range, but I'd advise anyone to use different software when it comes to uploading & editing your pics. I recommend Faststone, it's free and does a great job.

Great first digital camera,

This review is from: Fujifilm FinePix J30 Digital Camera - Silver (12MP, 3x Zoom) 2.7 inch LCD (Electronics)
I bought this for my parents both in their 60s. It is the first digital camera they have owned and I can't recommend it enough for ease of use and performance. It is intuitive to use but the user guide is straight forward and easy to understand too. My parents have found it easy to use and have taken some cracking photographs with it. It is compact and lightweight but not so small that it is fiddly to use. If you are looking for a no nonsense easy to use camera that delivers great results I would recommend this one.

My daughter wanted a simple and easy to operate point and shoot camera to replace her much more expensive (and complicated) Canon. Liked the large screen at the back. Have never been disappointed with Fuji cameras. A lot of very good pictures were taken over Christmas. Compact and easily stored in the case purchased at the same time.

I have browsed dozens of pages before I purchased this camera, at first look it is a great product, is small and practical and it can fit in any pocket.
The 2.7 inches screen is huge and clear. Lithium battery with re-charger made this camera great buy, at this price sounds a real bargain! I bought it as a xmas present and came with the free case which makes the whole package very appealing. I would buy this again and I would suggest this to a friend. Great product worth every penny! Having had three other digital cameras before this one, I am very pleased with the Fuji J30. I have had a long association with using the old 35mm roll and cassette type cameras. These ranged from Compact and Instant cameras to SLR Zenit and Pentax MZ-50. The modern camera has to be very good to compete with the up surge in Digital cameras that are on the market at present. As I am interested in shooting scenic photos as well as the personal photos, I find that the J30 is very hard to beat. It sits well in the hand and is very well balanced. So far I have shot Autumn scenes, Steam Trains in action on video, as well as the personal ones. The videos, when downloaded to my pc, have turned very well indeed. I can find only a slight fault with the product, the instruction book was absent and had to be downloaded from the internet. This, I found, was rather a blight on the satisfaction that I otherwise got from Fujifilm J30 Camera. Certainly, in the future, if I change to another model, a major point will be if there is an instruction booklet with it or not. I would recomend this camera to anyone who wants a very good reliable digital camera.

This camera arrived very quickly after ordering and I was very pleased with it. I have used it everyday since it came and have taken some really great photos. It is very easy to operate and quick to respond. It is light and easy to carry and very quick to start. It is also very quiet to operate which makes it easy to take photos of animals and birds - wonderful! There is only one drawback and that is the software that came with it - it is not very good at all. In fact I have deleted it from my computer and now use my preferred software for loading the photos, for viewing and editing. Shame about that, as I could only give the whole package 4 stars. I would give the camera, on its own, and service from Amazon 10 stars each.

High Resolution pocket Fuji J30,

This review is from: Fujifilm FinePix J30 Digital Camera - Black (12.2MP, 3x Zoom) 2.7 inch LCD (Electronics)
I bought this camera for my mother-in-law, and took advantage of excellent deals on a 4GB memory card and case which I bought at the same time. I've owned a lot of digital cameras and must say that ergonomically, this is one of the nicest (and definately the most resonably priced). It takes nice shots in low light. The flash is well balanced. The picture quality is very good, as is the video. It only gets 4 stars because it does not have a dedicated button to switch between stills and video, which means you have to fish around in a sub-menu, and there is a risk that the camera could switch itself on in your pocket (which could damage the lens as it deploys, thus writing off the camera) - this happened to a previous camera of mine when it was in its case. I prefer compact cameras that have a manually operated sliding front cover - see the Fuji Z30. Finally, it is a very small camera (tricky for me to hold) and the buttons that operate the main functions are very small - probably better for a lady than a gent.
