the one advantage that garner simmons had, is that he was lucky enough to have corresponded with the man himself during his research for this book. as a result, this makes for highly entertaining reading all the way through. in addition, "peckinpah: a portrait in montage" stands as being the most informative when it comes to discussing all of peckinpah's films. 11 out of his 14 films each have a chapter dedicated to the various goings-on and behind the scenes problems that occured during almost all of peckinpah's time as a film maker. various colleagues in front of and behind the cameras, offer their own insights and opinions with regards to the man who has often been to referred to as "one of the most difficult film-makers in hollywood." this book goes to some lengths to prove that peckinpah was just that. the photos that have been selected are brilliant as they show in detail, peckinpah's techniques as a director and also his consultations with quite a few of his actors, in which photos are plentiful.
this easily ranks alongside david weddle's biography "if they move kill 'em" for presenting both accurate and entertaining information and facts.
