This amp is okay for a starter amp with the added bonus of ipod playback too.

For the critical listener though the amp is a little under-powered and struggles a bit to power my Wharfedale bookshelf speakers.

The sound quality also has a slightly brittle tone that can be harsh on the sibilants.

Lastly, the fan is a bit noisy and could bother you if you're sensitive to extraneous noise.

I bought my first CAMP-1 amplifier from Apollo 2000 but when I got it home, it was totally dead. I returned the amplifier and agreed to take another one. When I got this one home, the right channel switched off after ten minutes of continuous use. The case was quite warm on the right hand side so I guess that there was an internal fault. I returned the amplifier to Apollo 2000 for a complete refund. This is a cheap unit, which shows from the general standard of design and construction and lack of proper testing. The amplifier (when it was working) was under-powered compared to my twenty-five year old 50-Watt Realistic amplifier, which I am still using until I find something better!

Broken after 3 months. While it was functioning it was average at best. I would avoid this amp and pay a little more for something of higher quality.

Loved the product and the design etc but I had quite a small space into which to place the amp and the dimensions given on this website along with many other sites were incorrect so unfortunatley I had to return it for a refund

The above item is advertised with a 500 Watt power output, which at the price would seem very good value for money, but as is often quoted if it looks to good to be true it usually is. The said amplifier Acoustic Solutions CAMP-1 Hi-Fi Aplifier 500W, is in actuality (Specs with unit) only 2 x 40 watts @ 4ohms RMS or 2 x 30 watts with 8 ohms speaker impedence.

When asked for an explaination, the seller Matrix Discounts of Daventry promised they would call right back - still waiting.

First of all this item was delivered very promptly, ordered Sat. arrived Tues. Maybe that is why the iPod dock was missing, all done in a hurry. Still, I spoke to a very courteous customer service person who assured me that they would send one. Friday and nothing yet but I will be patient. The amp itself is slightly underwhelming, I mean it is ok but I expected more as my son has an earlier model with similar specifications but it sounds much better. It certainly looks the part along with the DVD player and the Dab tuner, another 10 -15 watts rms and it would probably have been 5 stars. No stars deducted for missing dock as these things happen and can be sorted.

Update: One week on still no iPod dock. I phoned customer services at Matrix, Tracy sorted things out straight away and I will get it tomorrow definitely. Product now up to 4 stars as the more I use it the more I like it. Tracy gets 5 stars, no question.

Ordered Monday evening, arrived Wednesday morning : prompt and fast delivery.
Great amplifier for what I need and you don't need more than this really for a normal size room.
Got a great deal from Matrix Discounts and be more than happy to order from them again.
