More a return to a recognised Stryper style this time. 25 years have gone by and it's good to see the boys still able to churn out a good tune and catchy rhythms. The ballads are up to scratch and the playing all the way through is very much top-notch.

Not as 'modern rock' as Reborn, but a good, solid, thumper of an album. I played it for the first time in the car and was smiling for ear to ear on several occasions, joining in the the harmonies (all present and correct, sir!) throughout, and giving the steering-wheel drums a good battering on several tracks.

The cover of Piece of Mind with Tom Sholz sits very well with the remaining self-penned numbers.

Now, if only they would come over here - and NOT just to London - so that I could go see them live.

Well done guys. Murder By Pride is a welcome addition to the - mainly - first-class pantheon of Stryper albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars 25 years on, still going strong, 16 Aug 2009
This review is from: Murder by Pride (Audio CD)
Stryper are back with this album that marks their 25th anniversary. The guitars have more "crunch" and screaming riffs than their previous release (Reborn), but the songs still speak of God's love and life-changing Grace. Powerful rockin' tracks with a ballad or two and a cover of Boston's Peace of Mind with Tom Scholz on guitar. Fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to the glory days!, 27 Sep 2009
This review is from: Murder by Pride (Audio CD)
If you liked Stryper in their 80's 'hair'day you'll love this album. The hair/glam metal scene of that time was about having a good time all of the time - the joy of life and what was out there to make life more fun. Stryper's music still had the same enjoyment to it as the other bands but their message wasn't about the hedonistic lifestyles the other boys n girls enjoyed. If you have To Hell With the Devil on vinyl it's time to upgrade to CD and while you're at it get Murder by Pride. It won't disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yellow n black is back, 13 Nov 2009
This review is from: Murder by Pride (Audio CD)
By these strypes I might well be healed...Typically hot Stryper sonics, great harmonies. Several standout tracks. I might even prefer this to the halcyon Styxian era. If you ever raised a smile when hearing/seeing old Stryper you should buy this album and tie some yellow & black BUNTING to your bicep, and cut a triangle into your kick flares. 777.

Great CD. Didn't expect it to be as good as it is. If you ever liked Stryper, you will love this. Great songs and the band prove that they can be heavy and sentimental in equal measures. By the time the first track finishes, you will be sold!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Stryper album since Against The Law, 8 Mar 2010

Good album overall. I was a bit disappointed with their previous album "Reborn", but musically this is Stryper at their best. 2 or 3 of the songs are a bit cheesy, but if you know Stryper that won't be a surprise! I like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 21st Century Stryper!, 2 Sep 2009

While "Reborn" seemed very distant from the classic Stryper sound (according to rumour, it was intended as a Michael Sweet solo project, but the boys were available to record it, so it became a Stryper project), "Murder By Pride" should please the older fans, with a very clear vintage sound on a lot of the songs, although that sound has evolved from the 80s glam to a more modern take. Like me, longtime fans will love it. Other songs, though, have the edgier groove that more closely resembles Michael's "Truth" album. The switch is seamless, and the band is very comfortable blending both into one fantastic, energetic modern Stryper album that at least rivals their earlier work. And Michael Sweet, one of the true vocal virtuosi, proves he still has what it takes to blow you away!

For those wondering how "Christian" this album is... the lyrical content is generally of a more personal nature than openly evangelical, but you'd never mistake it for anything other than what Stryper has always been about, having found a good balance between the early albums and the much-maligned (wrongly, in my opinion) "Against the Law".

The previous two reviewers gave this album 5 stars... who am I to argue? A great album from start to finish, this is how Stryper should sound!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically insiprational positive big uplifting rock!, 9 May 2011

I know the stories about Stryper, the funny tales, the over the top Christian gestures at their shows in the old days, the possibly too in-your-face songs. But coming to hear this new album from the reformed band at present, they seem to know how laughable they were, they see the joke they were but they still hold strong in their own identity.
This is I beleive the second proper album since the return, and it really is very good, impressive modern classic heavy rock/metal album. It matches up to many new similar albums from bands the same age as Stryper, and newer ones too.
These are great, very catchy big, cool heavy songs, with honest uplifting passionate lyrics. It seems they have become better as musicians technically, and seem to write better tunes I think from what Ive heard of the older songs.
This a very great modern heavy rock album, to lift you up, give you hope. Excellent album.

this album is absolutely brilliant!
and one of the reasons is that it isn't so preachy about jesus!
Mind You, they have already cashed in on jesus, so there for they seem to be able to make some decent music now! and sing about everyday things

Like 'against the law' this is a superb record.
and yes stryper have been critiseized a lot for what they believe in, but most metal fans have no problems with satanism and to me chritianity is just as much of a fairy tale.
so what ever it is ...THIS ALBUM ROCKS!!!
